Okay, I made my other post with too many things in it, so I asked it be removed and am starting over.
I am a builder more than a miner. I like making cities more than I like rooting in the rock. *chuckles*
Anyway, a few more flower colors would be excellent. The other colors could be used in potions, for example. I know that most of the time, you want them to do something, not just 'be there' for looks.
So, some ideas of what flowers could be used for besides dyes:
-- Potions
-- Food (dandelions, for example, are edible, so there is RL precedent)
-- Food recipes (new soup recipes, spices for meats, etc.)
-- Glue/adhesive
-- Seeds (most plants flower before they make fruit)
-- Poisons
-- Animal fodder/food
-- Creating Paints
So there are many uses to which flowers of various colors could be put.
Conversely, you could make a white flower that would be subject to the same dyes that Wool is.
That's a really neat idea. I didn't really consider other colors of flowers to be any more than dyes, which would be rather conflicting. If we had orange and blue flowers, what would be the point of being able to mix yellow and red, or the point of lapis lazuli? I think it would be a shame for lapis to lose its usefulness. I really like your ideas for what other color'd flowers would be used for, especially potion ingredients and animal foods. :]
I think blue flowers would be cool for blue dye. Lapis is just stupid, IMO.
But then what would we do with Lapis Lazuli? It can't just be taken out, especially since lots of people reeeaally love it.
Also, you have to take into account that some very saturated, beautiful dyes have been rare in real life for centuries. Take for example, purple dyes. There was a time where people with purple clothings were considered very rich, and that's because they were. They were rich enough to afford purple dyed clothes, and that's how that color became synonymous with royalty.
You could think the same way with lapis lazuli, it shows what you've accomplished by having blue or purple wool decorating your home. It's actually quite satisfying. :smile.gif:
