If you havent already, please go read my original post.
Don't worry, I read the OP and the entire thread, as I often do before posting (as a courtesy). I simply think that minecraft has always leaned in a more "fantasy" direction, or at the very least "pre-modern." Suddenly throwing sci-fi in would spoil the mix. I understand the references you make, but you have to understand that things like Warhammer and Warhammer 40k (etc.) are rooted in the merging of sci-fi and fantasy. They started that way. Minecraft did not. If I took Firefly or Deus Ex and threw in Magic spells, it wouldn't make sense. Similarly, if I took Game of Thrones or Minecraft and threw in space vessels it would not make sense, because that's not the way it was intended to be, unlike your examples.
Also, I think it's pretty dumb to have more than one alternate dimension anyway, but that's just me.
*snip*
And again: AIR BLOCKS DO NOT EXIST therefore the game would load these "air blocks"... because they do not exist.
I'm sorry, but... derp.
Yes, air blocks are rendered. Everything from the build limit to the ground is loaded as new chunks are made.
EDIT: They wouldn't lag the game because obviously there's a render limit, just like on the ground, but... derp. They do exist.
"A big problem with your suggestion overall is that you've been thinking of reasons that we shouldn't hate it rather than why we should give it a chance". Actually, if there was a good reason that technology shouldnt be included in Minecraft I would have included it in the poll. Actually with your statement, the opposite is actually true. A big problem with your criticism overall is that youve been thinking of only reasons that everyone should hate it rather than give it a chance, and Ive explained numerous times just why it should be given a chance.
The game is already huge (minecraft is literally an infinite flatland) so your idea that my idea is some huge lag monster just because it introduces a new dimension is invalid. Okay to clarify: The game is already INFINITELY HUGE so INFINITY PLUS INFINITY EQUALS INFINITY. So any attempt to add new content to the game would be negligible in terms of hardware requirment, since the game has already ahieved INFINITY. Now that goes all the way back to render distance which Ive already explained: Your computer does not load all this infinite terrain all at once. That is impossible. You will notice the physical memory size of your world data will increase as you explore more and more terrain.
And about my poll, I honestly did consider adding more "fair" options for people, but in the end, you really dont have any justifiable reason to hate technology in Minecraft other than you just dont like technology so I added what options I felt were actually fair.
And again: AIR BLOCKS DO NOT EXIST therefore the game would load these "air blocks"... because they do not exist.
And again: I never said anything about aliens, but Im not completely closed to the idea. PLEASE READ.
But in SPACE You'll definetly need to see more than 100+ blocks away. More around 10,000 if you want semi-bad looking cube planet thingies and room to move. Air blocks do not take space PHYSICALLY, but they are in the coding itself. How do you think caves form if air blocks do not exist.

I completely agree that the player shouldnt just suddenly be thrust into space. There should be a smooth transition through technology, and the said technology would have to be stylized to match the artstyle of Minecraft. Guns, cars, spaceships, lasers, they should all be made in a stylized way so as to add and not take away from the atmosphere of Minecraft. I disagree with you because I still believe it can be done.
"warcraft 40k started that way, Minecraft did not". Well Im not too familiar with the lore of Warcraft, but they did have to start somewhere.
I'm sorry, but... derp.

Thank you for not frothing at the mouth like other posters. I can go to bed at least a little content. I guess you people are really convinced air blocks exist. I guess Ill have to read the below link.
You are suffering anyone intelligent would know. Which means everyone on this thread denying your idea knows your suffering... Also many people have proven you wrong but you can't accept that because your bull-headed im sorry but its true. People have given you facts left and right but your making up story's avoiding the situation... Also I would give a link but I can't... As I said earlier its been a very long time since he said that... Even if I could find the link you would say its fake and make up something knowing your nature so there's no point in it... "but Ive managed to keep my comments non hateful, keep my comments relatively structured and logical, and have managed to keep my cool against illogic and hate, so thats pretty much a victory in itself." No it isnt you your just bluffing again... Simple as that there is nothing more I can say on that its just a simple lie im afraid... "you've resorted to comments like "I enjoy watching you suffer writing your comments" thinking you will achieve some form of victory, making me angry or something. Mature." Actually im not trying to make you angry I knew you would not get angry because of the nature of the situation... I was just making a strategy for the argument p.s you fell for it btw I wont tell you what the strategy is either so don't bother asking. And yes creepers being camouflaged I still have the right to fight for it... Anyways ps you're bluffing again... "but you have lost that right because now you're doing just what those people have done to you." You have never seen that thread in your life you would know what they were doing... What they were doing was a completely different story... "Your logic is invalid because it doesn prove why my idea wouldn't fit into Minecraft." Actually lots of people logic has proved you wrong several times on this thread but well once again you cant accept your wrong because you don't like being wrong... Also notch actually hated the idea of advanced technology...
Sigh do you wanna know why people hate this unoriginal idea thats been rejected a billion times before? Its because anything high tech would ruin the feel of minecraft... Going to space involves something being high tech no matter how you mention it or say it. I mean seriously going to space in 11 ad is impossible... It was just after the era of the caveman. Nobody likes your idea no matter what you say it will not change things. Anything to high tech ruins the feel of minecraft just go and download the moon mod its not much but its space is it not? I would not complain that much...
I eyed over your paragraph and I can just tell its garbage. I refuse to read it because of its length and caveman likeness. This is basically what your saying: "Were right because were right and your wrong because your wrong." I see no logic in your argument. Simply saying the same thing over and over again in a gigantic paragraph does not change anything. If you really want to try to prove me wrong, bring something up like the guy below. He brings up that in Space, your going to need to be able to see much farther than you do normally, so it would be tricky to implement. Thats an example of logical, and acceptable criticism.
Yep, finally I have criticism with at least some logic to back it. Thank you I will read the link.

Also shroom, if you really do get around to replying again, keep it short and simple. You can convey a basic argument with much fewer words than that.

Lol its not garbage its actually quite good that would explain why your saying what your saying. Its because your giving up on this argument because you cant win... "This is basically what your saying: "Were right because were right and your wrong because your wrong."
So um errrr you said you refuse to read it yet your saying that... Makes real sense bro... Also no in fact it did not say that... Im saying you cant accept that your wrong. Because you dont like being wrong... and a few other things i dont want to mention.
The reason it had so many words is because it was good argument... Once again that would explain why you just gave up...
Well anyways i won this argument because you refused to read what i said and give it a reply.
I read a bit more of your enormous paragraphs nevermind the grammatical and spelling errors, and I was right. Your are saying you are right and I am wrong, and dont use any logic to back it.
You use the word "bluffing" in the wrong context (you dont know what it means). Go look it up.
So you had some sort of strategy instead of just making me angry? Well I salute you sir it has worked. Wow you really pulled the wool over my eyes.
And no. If you were to provide a link I wouldnt deny it. Actually, that sounds like something you would do. If I can provide the link of the tweet where he doesnt say he hates technology, I will bring it right back here.

Hey so about the poll: When I voted it forced me to pick an answer(s) for both questions. I thought maybe it was just exclusive to me, in which case I dont care but if its doing that to everyone I would like to be able to change it. You should not be forced to pick answers from both sides.

Your downvote options are really passive-aggressive and assholish, intentionally trying to persuade people to vote otherwise even though they've almost definitely already made up their minds, while making all of them way too irrational or extreme for people to get behind confidently.

It is slightly biased, but I chalk it up to enthusiasm. (Do change it, original poster.)
I think it should be this unreachable place that one can interact with through beams and such. For instance, if you stand at the sky level and use a certain item, one could 'stargaze' and see the asteroids run around and smash into each other, with perhaps a Space Core or two floating around. (Portal FTW.) Occasionally, one can laser an asteroid down to earth. It would be made of cobblestone, with perhaps a glass, or a coal, or occasionally a diamond in the middle.
I actually told him to PM me because were getting off topic but he never did...
Actaully you tried to troll on my profile in which case I deleted it.
Also, to clarify, you are saying the truth is biased?: "I like to stick to the idea that it is impossible to fit any technology whatsoever with either the graphic or gameplay style even though there are a few examples of technology in Minecraft already"

You really think you aren't biased? I've read through 5 pages of you being completely nonreceptive to the very notion that it is possible for you to be wrong. What you are suggesting is that some random guy in the middle of nowhere, would somehow progress in technology from swords to space travel (and everything in between) in the course of one lifetime, with only one person? How is that logical? It took us generations, with several people working together in each one, to advance a few spaces on the tech tree you are proposing here.

So I like scifi more than fantasy, and other people like fantasy more than scifi (or like you just outright hate it obviously). So I decide to make a thread detailing a compromise: The merging of both. Im nonreceptive? How are you so sure that you arent?
You say that it doesnt make sense that some guy in the middle of the wilderness should have access to advanced technology. Well it doesnt make much more sense that he should punch trees to collect wood, or build floating structures, and all that other stuff that he does that I wont bother explaining so your point is invalid.

I enjoy sci-fi. I just think it would seem out of place in minecraft. This whole idea would fit better with the existing atmosphere of minecraft if you gave it a slightly more fantastical spin.

Hmmm i guess it MIGHT work as another world, but it might seem too hi-tech, and as the dude who keeps raging at you says, notch has stated that he didn't want to add hi-tech elements to the game, but with a more fantasy-ish way of getting there it could work.
