As far as I know villagers have pig AI now, and nobody knows what their AI is supposed to be in the future. I think that would be nice if villagers had some functional roles (e.g. farmer, warrior, trader) like in Dwarf Fortress. Player could "tame" them and bring to his/her place. For instance, you could build a hen house and put a NPC in to gather eggs, etc. What do you think?

i expect exactly what has been said on mc news, you can pillage villages or become they're best friend. rewards for both sides will be there. mc is becoming an rpg, lol.
I think that they should offer "quests" or "tasks" for rewards: Killing Mods, Collecting, Creating, Traveling to the Neither or rescue of Villagers. I want to do Hero Stuff!!!
I'd like to see Civilization-esque interaction, for example taking over villages and forming an empire. However this would probably require more villages that most people would want...

When light fades, darkness shall rise from the depths of the world and consume all.
They should not be invisible to enemies, and should have to seek refugre during night just like the player. Perhaps their villages should have city walls with gates that close during night time?
They should all complete simple task, build to improve and enlargen their village (capping at 20 buildings and 3 wells), and trade item from there corresponding job, (black smith weapons armor farmer bread wheat melons ect.) they should sell more and more advance thing as there village grows. And grow some what faster the more you trade with them.
For example a village of 4 buildings would sell 2 of each wood weapon, no armor, 10 wheat, 32 seeds, (plain wheat seeds) and 20 raw chickens.
villages of 7 building would sell all of smaller villages and 5 of all weapons up to stone weapons, 3 leather boots, 3 leather hats, 30 of each mushrooms, 64 seeds, 20 wheat, and 20 raw beef.
villages of 10 buildings would sell all of smaller villages and 50 leather, 30 pumpkin seed, and 20 raw pork chops.
village of 15 buildings would sell all of smaller villages and 10 of all weapons up to stone, 5 of each iron weapon, 3 full leather armor sets , 64 sticks, 5 bows, 30 mushroom stew, 10 sets of leather armor, and 10 of each dyes.
Villages of 18 buildings would sell all of smaller villages and 8 sets of iron armor, 64 wood, 64 arrows, 5 of each gold weapons, 64 cobble stone, and 50 iron ore.
villages of 20 buildings would sell all of smaller villages and 20 of all weapons up to stone, 10 of each iron weapons, 10 of each gold weapons, 5 sets of gold armor, 30 of all cooked meats, 50 iron ingots, and 1 diamond sword.
*note all buildings most be built completely by npcs. If you build them or help with even one block that building doesn't count to the total buildings*
Each items stock will respawn after 2 hours of game play, 5 for items as listed: iron armor, iron ingots, iron ore, and gold and any gold item. Diamond sword stock would respawn after 7 hours.
I was thinking that for quests, missions, etc. they could have a message board with signs on it. After completing the desired quest, you right click on a sign and recieve your reward.
For example:
Sign: Kill 5 Creepers
Reward
2 Stone Swords
-You kill 5 creepers-
-You return and right click on the sign-
-You recieve 2 stone swords-
-Sign is replaced by a new one-
I'd like to see their AI rise a bit. But, hey, it's Minecraft! I can't imagine things more complex than "stores" around the village! Perhaps, trading option one day?
Miners
- should have a specific time for selling (like, the shop is closed for 4 days, and becomes rich in the fifth day).
- sells cobblestone and coal (most common), iron (less common), diamonds, gold, redstone, lapis (rare)
Farmers, Butchers, Blacksmiths, Fishermen, and other stuff is not currently needed because you can do their jobs (farm, hunt, craft, fish, etc.).
Completely disagree with "vendors" and "quest givers" ideas. Minecraft is not a MMORPG. A player should give tasks to NPC, not vice versa. Millenaire NPCs are much closer to what am I talking about.
(Jorge Luis Borges, Evangelio Apocrifo)
merchant for blocks
miner for ores and bars
blacksmith for weapons and armour
nurse for healing and etc
"You like porkchop sandwiches, don't you
SquidwardVillager?"Totally disagree, that would be completely different idea. Minecraft (both with or without skills) isn't a MMORPG.

Why use a mod that the vinalla game already has ?
Click them or they will click you
Because the vinalla game npc village have no interaction, and use and are nothing like millenaire.
For example:
Sign: Kill 5 Creepers
Reward
2 Stone Swords
-You kill 5 creepers-
-You return and right click on the sign-
-You recieve 2 stone swords-
-Sign is replaced by a new one-

Check out my mods! :-)
