I had this idea last night, and I thought that it might make Minecraft a bit more challenging. But maybe a bit too hard for the un-experienced player. Literally.
So then. When you make a map, you have the option to have a max weight in your inventory. The starting would be 100. I'm not making anything like 1.7 OZ, because that could get a tad complicated. You could see your max weight and how much weight you have left in the bottom right corner of the inventory screen. When you level up, you would get skill points, and one of he upgrades would be "Max Weight +," and for every upgrade, your max weight would go up by 20, the ultimate upgrade being unlimited, also causing this to appear:

World's Strongest Man
Below I'm going to make a small chart, with just the basic wooden stuff. I'll add more when I can. And equipped armor costs no weight. If you have over max weight, you will slow down by half a second every half of a whole is excess. Example: Your max weight is over flowing by 1.5, you will slow down by a second and a half.

I think if he were to ever add a new difficulty like "Realism" or "Hardcore", this would be a Key Feature :biggrin.gif:
And i would love it as an addition to a non-standard difficulty. But for Vanilla minecraft, its a little much. Especially when your trying to build large structures. Constant trips up and down, and back and forth would just get tiresome.
I think the weight limit system is a great idea; although I completely hate it at the same time. It's just an annoyance in other games that have it implemented, and I end up having to dump my whole inventory. But I agree, it would add an extra challenge and require players to watch what they pick up and hold on to the valuables while making more frequent trips back to your base.
Thanks for the positive parts of your comments :3
I forgot to add "Having an over weighting inventory will make you walk/sprint slower."
Lol.
And I guess I should add an option on the pause menu.
Great idea that would make a great addition to hard mode in a future update.
However, it seems a bit stupid that planks are heavier than logs. Wouldn't it make more sense if planks were 4x lighter because 1 wood = 4 planks. Otherwise it would mean people would be forced to carry around logs and have to craft them to planks in order to make anything on the move. It just seems like a bit too much hassle.
I didn't think about the wood planks thing...
I'll fix that immediately.
Yeah it will discourage gathering but it will make adventure fun because you would have to think before takeing loot
Going back and forth between my base with a tiny load of items each time isn't fun; it's boring and repetitive as all hell.

As for people who say they wouldn't like it because of taking endless time taking load by load, you just have to level up, or use minecarts.
Part of the fun of minecraft is that you can do certain amazing, unrealistic but still lolworthy things for fun. Being able to carry 8 metric tons in your pocket is one of those things. First you take away my super-strength. Then you'll take away my love of raw meat and give me a tapeworm. Next you'll take away my regeneration and give me a broken leg and an infection. Then you'll take away my blocks and make me build with spheres, or worse yet, give me realistic looking materials. How dare you, sir. This ends here.

TL;DR: Read it anyway.

I don't see anything fun about this idea.
Also, there's already a thread about this.
