I know that something like this has probably been suggested before, but now that with 1.8 right around the corner, and food apparently not giving you health regeneration beyond about half a heart every few seconds with a full stomach, I feel that this is a bit more relevant now. I think that there should probably be some form of healing item that can be used for a (moderately) quick heal in a sticky situation.
My thoughts were bandages. Made with probably about three or four cloth, it would give you two bandages (if the design is with 3 cloth) or three bandages (if it would use four cloth).
Two ways I think that this could be gone about with in the game:
1) Using bandages is nearly instantaneous, and significantly boosts your health increase for either a specific amount of time (like, say, the recovery of four to six hearts) or until you reach full health.
2) Using bandages takes a minute, but immediately boosts your health significantly (similar to Left 4 Dead).
Using bandages, particularly with the second method, could use an animation that aims the bandages more toward the player and gives a circular motion, to make it look like you're actually applying the bandages (somewhat).
Whether or not application should hinder your movement, I feel could go either way. Obviously, you wouldn't be able to hit things, though.
But anyway, the design would probably look like this:
If the decision was to go with 3 wool for 2 bandages, then just a straight line of wool, probably horizontally.
Or, it could look like this:
I couldn't come up with better for 4, but I'd much prefer the one using 3 wool anyway. But, alternatives make people happy. :33
What about if the bandages were made out of paper? That would make them kind of hard to get, so they wouldnt be really common, and it would finally give another use for paper. Otherwise i like the idea.

But, paper bandages wouldn't make sense AT ALL, while cloth does, and wool is the only animal drop that isn't related to combat. :S
While paper does need more use, bandages isn't it. :tongue.gif:

Keep in mind paper bandages are hard to get (at first) but once you get a reasonably sized sugar cane farm, it would be very easy to get.
I think that a paper and cloth recipe would be best. Here is how I think it should be:

Ah, I like that idea. Would give very slight immersive realism, which is always fun. :biggrin.gif:

If only I could aim.
That crafts cloth. Now, let's say that paper is cloth.
Now, bandages are ten times as hard to get... but, it's worth it, as you can easily heal health.
Done~
