Ever since I found out blue spiders, also known as venomous spiders, are able to take away hearts every couple seconds I thought, why not illnesses? It would definitely add more difficulty, realism & a survival feel.
Well here it is:
Frost Bite:
General Information: Frost bite can happen to one who stays in the tundra/night too long. There is a chance of this happening to you 25% of the time when in a tundra biome. You will lost hearts 2 and a half hearts every 45 seconds.
Treatment: A way to treat this would be to wear leather armor or to stay in a light level of 15. This means you would need to be right beside fire, jack-o-lantern, lava, glowstone or be outside in the sunlight. If you sleep with frost bite you will slowly lose the ability to move fast (no sprinting, only sneaking/crouching) and your health will be left with 1 heart!
Prevention: Always try to be in 15 light level at night or wear a complete set of leather armor.
Hyperthermia:
General Information: Hyperthermia will happen to you if you stay too long in a desert biome. There is a chance of this happening to you 25% of the time. You will lost hearts 2 and a half hearts every 30 seconds.
Treatment: You may only help get rid of Hyperthermia by constantly drinking water or by standing on ice for a limit amount of time (20 seconds?).
Prevention: Stay in the shade during the day time!
Salmonella:
General Information: You will catch Salmonella once you eat raw chicken! There is also a chance of this happening to you when you eat raw meat (10% of the time). Salmonella will make your player lose 1 heart every 30 seconds.
Treatment: The only treatment for this is by resting (no sprinting) or by eating a couple of warm mushroom soups! 16-32 of them, the number will of course be randomized.
Prevention: Don't eat raw chicken/meat!
Why does minecraft need this?
Because some of us really want some more difficulty and this would be an awesome feature for RP servers. It also gives hospitals in servers a purpose.
Jeb has already hinted that Salmonella may be implemented, whenever you eat raw chicken and such. I like the rest of the ideas though, although I would probably rage at the difficulty they would add, haha.
I was thinking of adding another one like this.. although i didn't know what to add for the prevention/treatment part. Well the reason I did that was because some people might dodge the actual illness just by eating.

Hypothermia is not if you get too hot, it's if you get too cold...
16-32 mushroom soup bowls seems a little excessive, no more than 4-8 should be necessary.
Instead of losing a heart or two at set intervals, frostbite should turn 1 of the players half hearts blue every 15 seconds. This starts on the right and ends on the left, and cannot be regained by food, but can be lost. Being near a lightsource (other than the sun) removes one blue heart every 10 seconds, while eating cooked food regains 1 blue heart. The amount of time it takes to have hearts turn blue is reduced by 3 seconds when not standing in sunlight and by 2 seconds when standing on snow or ice. Being in the water in a frozen biome causes one half heart to be lost every 5 seconds.
Desert would have a similar system: still every 15 seconds, 10 if standing in sunlight, and hearts turn orange instead of blue.
Illnesses are difficult, certainly, and even more realistic.
One thing that anyone will tell you though, is that illness and injury are not fun.
I don't want to be crippled by my game indefinitely due to one poor decision. I don't want to spend half my food supplies working around a slight inconvenience. I don't want the beginning player wondering why he could conceivably have lost so much health, why, he ate some food just a couple of minutes ago.

True. Salmonella might not be a good idea. But frostbite and heat exhaustion would be easier for new players to figure out.
Sounds insanely annoying and also way too frequent. I am never in favor of illness in minecraft because I always find it to be overly annoying in terms of the way it is implemented and potentially game breaking under the right circumstances (i.e. you are surrounded by tundra or desert).
No support.

I had similar ideas about the heat and cold. I would support this if you nerf it the way Penguin suggested. I also think you can add standing in the rain as a way to take cold damage.

Replacing the name with Something like overheating or exaustion would be better...
Correct. HYPOTHERMIA is lack of temperature. "if you get too cold..."
BUT, if you read it closer, you will see HYPERTHERMIA, wich is plenty of temperature.
Like so: "Hypo = Lack // Hyper = Plenty of"
:smile.gif:
Do you know latin?
But still, hyper doesnt mean a lot of.
Or hypo
Interesting, reminds me of a zombie-apocalypse scene ahha.
Well, hyper does actually. Like "hyperventilate", its when you breath too fast.
