you see the enderman. it has a 50% chance to do what notch intends it to do. but then, the other 50%... it will stare at you, and when you look away, it vanishes. for 5-15 minutes, you will hear footsteps behind you, making it seem like its following you. doors will open and close and paintings will be knocked down,AND items in chests would be moved around, to make it seem like its in your house when your not there. finally you will turn around and it will be right behind you. if you look away it atacks. if you atack it, it makes a horrible screeching noise and dies. also, to make it even more scary when you see it, it will onley spawn ONCE every night.
this will make it more scary.

desturb a grave that randomly generates around the world and a haunting will begin. what may be found in it:
full set of leather armor ( always unless better armor)
iron pickaxe
iron sword
2 peices of iron armor
1 peice of diamond armor
1 watch
30 bones ( always )
DAY 1
hear footsteps
doors open and close
DAY 2
same as preveous days
paintings are knocked down
DAY 3
same as preveous days
see shadows in corner of screen
objects in chests move
DAY 4
same as preveous days
see shadow figures, apear and disapear quickly
day 5
same as preveous day
no noise, no mobs, pure silence.
at midnight a ghostly black figure will apear and charge at you. you are now dead. all your invintory drops out in the form of bones.
HOW TO SURVIVE:
craft a golden pendent and wear it. when day 5 arrives, atack the ghostly figure. it will die in a horrible screeching sound. if you dont kill it it will charge you scream, and repeat days 4 and 5 over and over untill you do kill it.
the golden pendent has a simple recipe. if you are not prepared to make it you should not desturb a spirit.
HAUNTED SHIPS
VERRY RARE a ship wreck will be on the shore of your world. going in will reveal various treasures. but in the chest in the lowest section of the ship where you find the stuff, it will trigger horrible screaming and the ship to light on fire. on the top deck a skeliton wil stand and stare at you as you leave. it will suddenly disapear in a cloud of particles and in its place will be a black figure, that will disapear in another puff of smoke. the obejects you received will cause negitive things to happen. the chests you place these objects in will have a block of water apear above them. as long as you have an object from the ship in one of your chests or invintory, you will be stalked by a skeliton that will make a horrible screaming noise. when you hit it, the screaming stops and it disapears. but it will keep coming back untill you get rid of all the objects, or wear a golden pendent when you hit it. this will end the haunting.
EDIT:
a haunting can be stopped if you dident destroy the tomb stone
and you put all items you took from the chest back into the chest and burry it. if you desturb the same grave twice, this method wont work.
Holy ****ing ****. You are a sick, creepy *******. Positively brilliant. But, with this kind of implementation at least, endermen (or farlanders) would need a low spawn rate, or perhaps a lower chance of a haunting than 50%.
This started out being enderman-ey but on day 5 it becomes another weird apocalypse scenario, where if you dont have a certain item, you die. Keep The doors, and the chests if anything, nothing else.

Good suggestions, but don't break any blocks cause I would hate having to go to the beach and replace all my paintings and get glass for 4 days....... I have an idea though, if you wear a pumpkin on your head when you loot the chests theres a 50 - 50 chance of getting haunted and wearing a pumpkin when you leave the ship will not make you drop all the items but half and when you have a pumpkin on your head you wont die at midnight when the ghost appears. Also grave robbing on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th day you will see ghasts when you go outside but they wont burn attack you and you cant attack them, they fly in circles around you

the difference between scary and creepy doesn't involve grammar.
this would never be implemented, because it would ruin the game.
there is no plus side to this suggestion. it would make you never want to play the game again.
the idea of severly punishing the player for exploring is the opposite of what notch wants.
and i hope I wont need ne explain this post to the people who agree with the idea.
Because the first day newbie players who don't know not to look at an Endermen are going to know how to craft a gold pendant and are going to be VERY happy to lose all their stuff
This would be scary the first time, but come times 2-3 it'd just be very annoying. I like Notch's way best.

hmm dident think about that. the haunting stops if you die before then.
