What if there was a block with a somewhat high blast resistance that wasn't easy to mine or to blow up? Kinda like obsidian but slightly easier to mine, could be blown up with some extra power, and can be pushed by pistons. Maybe be able to make a door out of it?
Or what about an obsidian door? I know, been suggested. Just a side thought. Maybe needs twice the Redstone input than normal doors? Like two switches on at the same time. This could be cool because you could make special doors that require two people to stand on two pressure plates. It could be cool for special maps and stuff.
These would be great for panic shelters. I'm making one and I'm using pistons to push blocks inside my obsidian panic room. The blocks are right behind the iron door, and I'm pretty sure they have a blast resistance really close together. Panic rooms and shelters could use some sort of block and/or door that is nearly impenetrable, if not impenetrable.
Cool you suggested this, it gave me some ideas aswell, and its funny you should ask about a block like that becuase the new aether mod has a block that does that XD though i wouldnt recommend installing the whole mod to get that one block.
We already have obsidian. There is no need whatsoever to destroy its uniqueness.

Hypothetical: You read a thread in the Suggestions forum. You suddenly realize you've seen the idea before. Maybe it's a duplicate? No. Maybe it's just you? No. Maybe it's been done already? Very likely: Click here if there's a mod for that.
Something close to Obsidian. Can be destructed with a little extra effort than a normal block and pushed and pulled by pistons.
Like I said: We ALREADY HAVE OBSIDIAN. You want high blast resistance, we have it. But that's not good enough: You want obsidian without the limitations (i.e., unmovable by pistons) which were obviously placed for a reason. And that's just ruining the unique quality of obsidian while being utterly pointless.

Still has 30 blast resistance, compared to the 6,000 of obsidian.
Of course! I have the solution! Fluids in Minecraft have a blast resistance of 500. Using pistons to create an airlock, you could have a high blast resistance door system.
Iron blocks could be changed to fulfil this role, then?
After all, having been in a blast furnace it has to be pig iron, and thus not as malleable as pure iron.
OBSIDIAN fills this role. The lack of piston compatibility is a tradeoff for the resistance. Suck it up and deal.
That said, blast resistance should vary more among blocks. Pure diamond blocks are as resilient as simple cobble, and that's just not right.

True, seeing as the only enemy who can see through walls in the first place is a spider.
Well, creepers can detect you through a 1-thick wall, but that's what you get for inadequate defenses. A mud hut would be almost as effective as an obsidian panic shelter for hiding in.
This is why I support digging zombie hive minds. But that's a different topic and I'm too tired to go grab the link.
This gets no support from me since it's already in the game, but some varying blast resistance would be nice.

I want something that CAN be broken, isn't AS hard to obtain, can be broken by more powerful explosions, and pushed by pistons. That isn't Obsidian. Obsidian is hard to get, very annoying to get, cannot be exploded, and not movable by pistons. I use gold blocks to cover the door. Yeah, I know, same as cobble, and such. Why do I use it? It looks cool.
Oh, and if you want use for the panic room, I think you'd LOVE my Doomsday thread. Note, it isn't a separate game-mode.

Though that is a good Idea, I don't have much space to work with.
Plus, you could go through water, and lava doesn't always go away once you stop the stream.

Obsidian is easy to get. What you want is a high-resistance block, which obsidian already provides.

Obsidian isn't that easy to get. It takes a while, and is very annoying. Plus, I want something that isn't totally indestructible.
The world is probably black and white to you.
Let me guess, you think pizza anywhere is the same as pizza in New York.
Let me guess, all these people who object to you like me are terrorist from Iraq and they all fit under one stereotype of 'idiots'
Jeez you are really hard-headed
That's an incredibly incompetent guess.
If you want something destructible, there are a ton of options available to you.
If you want high blast resistance, you have obsidian.
If you want high blast resistance while retaining destructibility, that is completely counterproductive and redundant.
I'm not saying "You don't agree, get out," I'm saying he doesn't have the right idea of what I'm saying and obsidian isn't what I'm looking for.
How?
