You could always use wool, glass, two pistons, and some clever wiring, but that would get complicated. I'd say there are bigger things Notch ought to add before making curtains.

NO. Don't click New Thread. Read the rules. I don't give a damn how long or boring they are. If you do not, you will be subject to massive flaming and criticism by yours truly.

But see that's the thing. Pistons weren't that big before Notch added those, there were bigger threads about more ridiculous things. Plus, this wouldn't really be hard to implement into the game if you think about it, it wouldn't take much room, and it really isn't a drastic change. So I think if we was able to get this thread popular enough, Notch would consider adding this, even with other modifications added, because like I said, this mod , not a drastic change, doesn't take almost any room at all, and is awesome.
Hypothetical: You read a thread in the Suggestions forum. You suddenly realize you've seen the idea before. Maybe it's a duplicate? No. Maybe it's just you? No. Maybe it's been done already? Very likely: Click here if there's a mod for that.
Seems like an awesome idea! I'm not normally one who likes decorations, but it seems like a nice idea. I would love to make a room full of curtains as walls, and there would be a secret door behind one of the walls.
I hope notch will add this into an update as a nice bonus. If not, ill add it in game via mod!

Pretty much sums up the suggestion forum in recent months.
Look at the post above mine. I couldn't quote his re-quote so it looks as if I'm talking about the curtains. No, I'm talking about how putting paintings over a window for curtains is just as bad as making a door with 2 wool blocks.

Don't worry, I wasn't disagreeing with you. People are trying to act as if Notch's time is too valuable to spend on the little things that would make the Minecraft experience much more enjoyable.
I remember when we actually had to use blocks instead of doors back in Indev. Funny times...

By balance, do you mean make it totally worthless?

Exactly! It's like everyone's totally forgotten the little things that help make the game great. Hahahaha! Yea, I remember the block doors, god help us all if we ever have to refer back to them again.
One of the pitfalls I see suggestions fall into too many times is being way too complicated (like the aether, it started out relatively simple, now just look at the current mod...).
This is about as simple as it gets, is understandably meant to be purely cosmetic, yet can still be useful with some cleverness. Good show I say.
It doesn't add more than one block to the game, and I'd like to see it stay that way, like the bed, but I digress.
Now one thing I feel I should mention after reading through the thread:
The problem with the "don't use it if it's added" argument, is that if a pointless item is added to the game, it clogs up an item/block ID, which last I checked there are a limited number of with the game engine.

Paintings are not curtains. And to some other post I saw: Adding big things takes time. It's more logical to add in the tiny bits like this first.
Well said and straight to the point overall.

Glad to know you appreciate it.
