Water Update for 1.8, 1.9 or something else in the future! Be prepared to get wet!
How oceans work:
Oceans'll be bigger. Well, in order to incorporate it a little more bigger, land also goes higher. This would also have to increase map height and overall, makes Minecraft bigger. And big is better.. in most cases.
Bigger world, more possibilities
We have then a deeper ore space than before due to ground size increasing. Also the ocean floor can be more varied in shape, as in deep sea diving being more awesome. Whadja call those deep openings on the sea floor? A few of that. Coral reefs, which I will explain later.
The Water Fill Theory
Water 30 blocks or more will fill empty blocks near it. This makes it easier to gather water. Same thing applies to spaces beneath. Your caves will probably be drowning in water but not to worry, a block of air is spared at the topmost part of the cave, thus giving you a chance to live.
Water pressure
Without any apparatuses to go delving into deep waters, you will die out of air deprivation or water pressure. Water pressure will KILL YOU at a certain level of water.
Infinite pool fix
isolated pools of water have a limited water capacity. This means that once the water runs out, it becomes shorter, and probably to half block size, and then to pressure plate, and then no more.
Rain
There are 5 levels of rain.
Shower-Weak rain
Rain-Normal rain
Storm-Lightning, heavy raining
Thunderstorm-Moar Lightning, rains like hell, vision impaired
Typhoon-Loads of Lightning, rains like its never gonna end, vision and speed impaired.
Shower
A Shower is a weak version of normal rain.
Rain
Normal rain will give grass a wet green texture, and also walking on it sounds like wet grass.
Storm
Appears less than a shower or rain, Storms can be terrifying. The rain will be so hard on you it probably hinders vision already. Lightning strikes often.
Thunderstorm
Thunder. All around you. The rain is blowing hard and unforgiving, leaving you half blind already with the pixels. Your vision is also blurred by this foggy mist surrounding you.
Typhoon
Thunder. A LOT. The rain would probably have drowned you already. You're slower, since if you try to run you'd be caught by the air and whisked away to some far off land. The blurry mist also is worse.
The Sub, the Sea diving helmet, the seaweed.
You can build a small iron sub capable of letting you see the underwater sights. A sea diving helmet (and body piece) lets you venture out for short periods of time, since you need air and that is in the sub. There is this magic seaweed that, when eaten, lets you breathe in water but not in land temporarily. You can move faster and not be affected by pressure. To know the effect is happening your skin will be green and scaly textured.
I really think all we need is the finite water mod. We don't need an increased map hight, it would just cause lag. There is no reason that oceans should be bigger, that would just make them boring to sail across.

Not much of a visionary, are you, mr llama?
I love the levels of rain though... The typhoon sounds awesome! :smile.gif:
i really like the different levels of rain. i agree with llama that the map dosnt need to be any bigger then it already is. i like my caves nice and dry and i don't like the water in the caves idea. dofferent watter levels are a nice idea though, but if you had that then wjen you place water it would need to be at a small interval, the same as when you take it out. BTW don't flame my spelling im typing this on a really bad computer.

the search bar is lonely because nobody ever uses it

I'm not so much a fan of that. I like placing water 1 full block at a time... I imagine the game would become much more tedious if I had to place 3 buckets per 1 block of water... :/
Please. Mr.Llama is my father, dude. Call me llama.
In any case, I'm not a visionary, I'm more of a realist. And realistically, we don't need a bigger map hight.
I'll fill the visionary role then. Also the optimist.
Anyways, bigger map height, we don't need but it could seriously make the game better, in my understanding. Bigger maps mean bigger oceans, bigger space. I could see craters hitting more ground than now, and a deeper underground means deeper ores and more space. Oceans can be proportional to real oceans and the sky is the limit!
And I wanna see how a typhoon hits me! Hell hath bringeth!

Edit: Meaning that the words "suggested. A lot." come to my mind first.
