As shown in the video teaser, the pistons that will be added into the game in 1.7 won't catapult entities like the pistons in the mod do, so making something like an automatic TNT cannon (which is possible with the pistons mod) won't be possible with the pistons in 1.7. My suggestion is to make a special type of piston, perhaps called a catapult piston, which catapults entities like the ones in the pistons mod. Perhaps the recipe could be something like this:
Where = bow, and = regular piston. I think that the catapult pistons should only be able to push sand, gravel, and entities, but will do so with extra force, making them fly up into the air when placed vertically (like the pistons in the mod), and they could also push entities/sand/gravel multiple blocks sideways. (So if you place some sand next to a catapult piston and then apply power, it will push the sand away and it will continue to move for several blocks before coming to a stop. The distance could vary based on the friction of the blocks it crosses.)
I'm glad you like it :smile.gif:
As for the crafting recipe, that was just a tentative option, it's open to change.
Although I'm not sure why notch decided not to add the feature of tossing entities, but I'm sure he had a reason to not include them, so I doubt this would be implemented, considering he made a conscious choice not to add it.
That being said, I do wish he hadn't decided not to include it. So I would support this.
I'd rather the regular piston just work how it does in the mod but...
Anywho, if they are removing the catapult feature on purpose when implementing pistons into vanilla why would they make an extra piston that does that?

Well, I'm not sure why Notch decided not to put the catapult feature on normal pistons. But perhaps he thought that doing so would give them too many uses. Having a specific piston for catapulting would fix that. Of course, perhaps he has another reason for not including them, but you never know.

Well I know Jeb was doing pistons, not Notch. I think Jeb said he took that out because he thought it was silly. I think that removing half the use of an item because it is silly is rather silly itself.

Well for me the catapulting feature is NOT half of the use of the pistons.
We still can do so much with it.
It is a bit silly, the piston 'moves' too slowly for it to the plausible that the human will be catapulted.
Yea, but in what uses can this flinging feature be implemented?
You could use it for traps, or make a cannon without using all that gunpowder, or a fireworks show. This is only the beginning, though. You could time it right have one send you up, then once you reach a certain height, send you horizontally, leading to an otherwise inaccessible home, for a dramatic entrance, or this:

NO. Don't click New Thread. Read the rules. I don't give a damn how long or boring they are. If you do not, you will be subject to massive flaming and criticism by yours truly.
You've seen the video, so you've seen the recipe. Maybe, instead of stone, you use iron for a stronger piston? After all, iron is stronger than stone. It would also give it a different look, but only slightly as to not lose that fantasy look.

Though instead of Bow, Dispenser makes moar sense.

That's where this catapult piston will be different; it can move at a speed that more realistically 'flings' things.
