Now that the new 1.7 patch is coming out i think that it is going to be very hard to create the sticky piston seeing that I have only found one slime while playing this game in the 6 or 7 months ive had it. im thinking that they should make something along the line of a possible pine pitch off a pine tree or something aa rare animal will drop to substitute for the slime. although i am trying to go around getting myself killed by a slime and go around the challenge this might be an alright idea. maybe we could create slime such as...
I like the idea of the pine sap, although I think it will be a bit too much work to add in an entirely new animal just to drop something another mob already drops.
I agree that Slimes are too rare, but it may be easier just to increase the spawn rate and fix the spawning conditions.
With the way slimes spawn, its either you have way to much of it, or you have absolutely none. Slimes spawn below level 20 in certain chunks, so unless you get luck/unlucky (depending on your view of it) you won't find one. I have been playing this game since November 2010, and I have found 1 slime, at the bottom of a tnt crater in smp, and it suicided in a pit of lava before I could do anything.
I think slimes should spawn in slime-floored caves. You'd find layers of slime on the floors of some caves, kinda like snow, and slimes would spawn there until you got rid of all the slime on the floor.

Nah... just slimes , but it would be better if slimes could spawn in smaller areas , and even on the ground instead of always being underground , i find it very annoying slimes being more rare than diamond! , and they just give USELESS SLIMEBALLS ( Yes , in 1.7 it would be used for sticky piston , i know... ) while diamond is used for epic tools and others!
or maybe jellyfish? once fished out u can get jelly or slime from them?
Hagfish!
When provoked, slime glands along the sided of their bodies secrete massive amounts of mucus. It is a defense system. If a shark tries to eat it, it often suffocates on the slime.
Therefore, I suggest that Notch add hagfish to the game. Hagfish would spawn anywhere from 25 to 50 blocks below the water surface. (I don't exactly know how deep the ocean goes!) They are bottom feeders, meaning they can stay at or near the bottom of the ocean for days, or sometimes even weeks, waiting for prey to come near enough to snag.
You would have to use a boat to get out to sea. Since the current fishing rods have floating bobbers, it would mean that Notch would need to add a way to make the fishing lures that sink down.
Crafting recipe: Where F=fishing rod, and S=smooth stone.

When you cast the fishing rod with sinking lure, the lure will slowly sink to the bottom. After a 30 sec. to 1 minute duration of the lure sitting at the bottom, the fishing pole in your hand will jerk downward, meaning you have a hagfish on your line. Simply right click to pull up the fish.
They are not edible, but you can use the hagfish and any type of sword together in any available crafting bench.
Recipe: Where H=Hagfish, and S=Sword

This would yield 4 slime balls, and would let you keep the sword, though the sword would take the same amount of damage as it would if you had hit a pig with it.

WOW! you thought this over i would be happy with an increased spawn rate but this would be a great thing also. i wish they would add more ways to catch fish and more types of fish.

this is a great idea!
i tried f3 thinking it would do what u said it might. and than i clicked it but forgot i had a macintosh. so it didnt work
They should be able to spawn in every chunk
They should not spawn often, but more often than now
How annoying is it to dig a giant slime spawn room, just too figure out slimes cant spawn in the chunk??
you already get cactus green from it, so how would it be able to cook both?
Also... what llama said.
Water would wash it away.
^^My blog^^
very good idea
