There are two primary schools in Minecraft:
Those who play to build large contraptions and buildings, survival be damned, and those who like to play on easy-hard, with mobs attacking them, just expanding. Some people want every item at their constant disposal, and others want to work for their items.
I propose that Notch create a new variant of the game, an update of the old Creative Mode, including every block that has been added since Creative, that lets you use an unlimited number of them in the same way that Mods provide, and in which you can edit large spans of the map by selecting ranges of blocks to fill or delete.
This obviously wouldn't be added until later in development, but this would make it easier to make the stuff people like to make without resorting to mods. This could also be used for the creation of Adventure maps.
I'm thinking of something similar to Halo 3's Forge mode, where you aren't exactly an omnipotent creator in a world frozen in time, but where designing that floodgate system requires careful planning so that you don't send water flying into the lava nearby.
Perhaps we could all be presented as flying pigs, like how you are presented as Monitors in Halo's Forge, and editing here could be done cooperatively, as well as allowing us to swap back to a human mob and play through our creations.
No. Creative mode does not have chests, flowing water, redstone, minecarts, furnaces, pickaxes, books, boats, snow, rain, infinite maps, enemies, sheep, etc.
I'm talking about an UPDATE to creative mode, that gives you access to beta items and allows you to save maps to be used for the eventual Adventure mode.

Would it have the open script, because flying pigs sounds like it would need some scripting, OR would it have a lot of GUI to do that without scripting?

Creative just means you have infinite blocks. Here you're talking about Classic Creative, which is the outdated version. Beta Creative is Beta with infinite blocks.

I said an UPDATE of classic creative. Please, learn to read. I'm talking about an UPDATE including ALL THE NEW BLOCKS. Beta Creative would be a descriptive title, I suppose.
EDIT: I edited the original post to include more specificity.
The final version will have the ORIGINAL creative mode.
What relevance does that have? Were you correcting him? The stress put on "Original" suggests you are stating that it would have the original mode exclusively, but he was obviously stating that he wants the updated creative to be included, and wasn't talking about the original creative at all. I don't believe notch has stated that he will ONLY have the original creative mode included.

I understand what you mean about the Unlimited Mode. I'm just trying to clear the water by saying that Creative doesn't have to mean that there aren't as many blocks or that that game isn't fully updated; it just means that you have infinite blocks at your disposal.
Anyway, I like your idea. Does it incorporate similar characteristics to those implemented with the SMP plugin WorldEdit?

Actually, in all my time playing Minecraft I've never used, nor been interested in, mods. I've always played vanilla, changing only my textures occasionally.
But I'd expect it to, assuming it includes the features one would expect in a 3D block world editing suite.
Ah, my apologies. Your post's use of capitalization and the context made it sound like you were saying "We don't need this in the final version, we're already getting the original creative mode, what more do you need?"

I also play vanilla in singleplayer, but I have moved primarily toward multiplayer and the server uses WorldEdit. It's basically a mod that allows a player to select two points and create a cuboid of a certain material selected with the //set [block type] command. I believe it also allows the player to make a sphere, cylinder, etc.

That sound like one feature I'd expect this to have.
I'd also expect to have the ability to selectively link blocks so that I can move a whole house at once.
Yeah, that would be nice. You should be allowed to select the water physics you want as well (indev style, alpha/beta style, recently updated beta style).
A creative mode to beta is already on the todo board. There is no reason to suggest it... Unless the suggestion is specifically to add other map editing features.

Note that a "Beta Creative Mode" does not entail very many specific features.
This thread's about a particular model of such a mode, taking inspiration from Halo's excellent Forge mode.

Sure looks like it. As I recall, Notch was thinking about adding Beta Creative, but this is sort of like incorporating mods and NBTedit.

Except that it's not. Nice reading there genius.
This is a bit more like it. The idea is to make it possible to play the game in a purely creative mode, but without classic creative's restrictions.
