Notch has stated that Minecraft will have a loose narrative. right?
I have an idea for the Nether.
Basically, what would happen is that randomly after you start a world, maybe a scripted period of time like 10 in game days, a Portal appears and when you approach it a quest is loaded. You go into the Nether and you learn more about the history of the Nether and how the Ghasts have imprisoned all of the Zombie Pigmen and keep them in check. And you find, like, a zombie pig resistance or something and you and the ZP work together to free the Nether from the Ghasts and turn it back into the happy pigmen land it once was.

Just an idea. :biggrin.gif:
Ill support this because i feel the trolls about to come.
That sounds a bit bit cheesey, how about this:
"Since oldest liveing memory, The Nether has been sealed from existance. The darkness it contained was not ment for mortal eyes. The Things in there are dark, Grave beings, that were built in suffering. Will you bring light in this land of stone and fire? Only time will tell..."

Edit time/Make better time!
"Since time immemorial, the Nether has been sealed. The darkness contained within its fiery chasms was not meant for mortals to behold. The creatures imprisoned within are dark, evil beings, reveling in a feast of souls thousands of years in the making. Will you bring light in this land of stone and fire? Perhaps... only time will tell."

Since quite a bit of time before this moment right here, the Nether has been unreachable (largely due to lack of code support).
But now... that has changed.
The dark, inky, black darkness of its penumbrous chasms and beshadowed deeps is not meant for mortal eyes... or shins. The foul, profane creatures that haunt the obfuscous hollows of its stygian depths are the pure embodiment of malice, avatars of burning hate, and victims of profound boredom.
For in the dreary, dull expanse of the The Nether... there is nothing much to really do.
(Also, some of these creatures, if properly prepared, are quite tasty with a sprig of rosemary and a side of mash. But that's neither here nor there)
THE POINT IS... Are you the nitwit who will venture stupidly into this tenebrous plane of pitch? Are you the blithering fool who missed that whole part about "not for mortal eyes"? Will you be the one who brings light into this land of ground beef (that's what netherrack looks like to me), fungal infestation, and fire, when no one ever asked you to and, in fact, would probably rather you didn't?
In fact, that would conflict with the sandbox part of the game.
If by loose narrative, you mean, it has a story, then I agree. Minecraft can be whatever you want it to be. That's the point. If you build the Starship Enterprise, then heck, minecraft can be in Star Trek, if you want. It can be in the time of the dinosaurs, or it could just be minecraft. But the thing is, minecraft isn't any one thing, and no one can make it just one thing. And that's a fact.

It's just an idea. :/

And that's just feedback. What's your damn point?
Anyway, your "loose narrative" sounds incredibly lame.

Yeah. Pretty sure that's gonna be you.
Nope.
