The Glowstone Sun is the perfect way to protect yourself against montsers, without the hassle of pesky redstone traps. The Sun acts as an artificial sun, burning anything that steps on it, as well as producing an aura that sets both zombies and skeletons on fire. It can only be crafted using a Nether Crafting Table, which itself is crafted like this:
The Sun gives off the brightest light in the game, and is the most effective way at breaking down mobs.
Please post any comments or changes you like to see if this were to get implemented. EDIT: I used my mediocre photoshop skills to add some actual pictures. (I suck with the whole imageshack thing.)
Three diamonds is nothing if you look hard it is pretty easy to get, glow stone isn't a problem either then you can never get touched by any enemy and get to pick up all their stuff? Such an easy way to get gun powder. Think about it, waaaaaaaay over powered.

Three diamonds takes a few days at least. Glowstone provides it's own challenges of having to pillar high in the air usually above lava. after you do that enough to get 72 glowstone without ghasts killing you is an achievement by itself. The only variable to say if it's OP is the aura's range.
I'd say about a 3x3 area with the sun in the middle. No, it does not burn the person who PLACED the block on the ground. This means that in SMP It can be used as a security system. And it is not overpowered at all, now that I added the Nether Crafting Table. This block is more of an end game type thing. It requires the most work to craft (considering it needs at least 9 diamonds to make the NCT) and provides an excellent defense. The only way this could be overpowered is if it set creepers and spiders on fire with its aura. Which it doesn't, only zombies and skeletons. (this means players and animals do not get burned by the aura as well.) Also, stepping on the Sun is not like standing in a fire. It acts more like a cactus when you are standing on it.
I don't think it is a bad idea, and is definitely not OP. Only zombies and skeles, so not unlimited gunpowder, just feathers, bones, and arrows. And it wouldn't make a huge difference, who has zombs and skeles getting into their house? My only question is about your nether crafting table. What is it?
Welp, now the glowstone blocks are easier to craft cause just made them craftable by a 2x2 square of glowstone dust compared to the old 3x3, meaning each sun requires 32 dust as opposed to 72

72 glowstone, and one obsidian means 3 diamonds first. All it does is burn something that it touches. It's not really overpowered.
OT: It's a nice idea. This would be great with pistons when they get added.
How is this not overpowered.

If your worried about mobs, make a door. Or a cactus wall, if you need it.
Its 32 now.
The thing is not worth getting then.
Troll face
Yeah... with the new update this idea is now OP.
