I'm getting curious: What is the likelyhood of Notch making a sequel to minecraft in the future that has blocks that are 1/2 the size of the current ones? Pickaxes would destroy a group of 8 blocks, the player would be 4 blocks high instead of 2, and terrain and structures would appear to be more detailed.
Is this a possibility? Would you like to see this as a natural evolution of minecraft?
Ah, Potato, he means well, but he wasn't thinking too clearly to observe others may not readily know how to reach eighth blocks. I'll help you out. Click the link in my siggy.

Do you show children your phallus? Is that what you want them to see?
Why make a whole new game, in which the only significant difference between the new game and the old game is the fact that the blocks are smaller?
Did I say that would be the only significant difference? Obviously the focus on this thread was not the idea of a sequel in general, but on having a smaller grid IN a sequel. Your complaint is like looking at a suggestion that a sequel to Super Mario Bros have a more colorful palate, and saying "Why make a whole new game in which the only significant difference between the new game and old game is the color scheme?" Or someone suggesting that the sequel to the Sims use 3D rendering instead of sprites. "Why make a whole new game that's the same other than the rendering?"
Besides, the idea here is to identify a major point of separation between the current game and a sequel, to make it obvious at a glance that a major change has occurred, one that is a leap forwards in technology. I don't know about you, but I would hate if a sequel to minecraft used the exact same engine but just had a few new features. Bioshock 1 and 2 had this problem, same for Halo 3 ODST and Left 4 Dead 2.
And at the suggestion about the 8th blocks thread, this is NOT the same thing. You guys are talking about adding the ability to place specially made blocks that are smaller than the normal grid. I am talking about overhauling the grid size altogether.
Which does the EXACT SAME THING. I mean, really now.
You really don't understand the difference between changing minecraft's block size and adding CRAFTABLE SMALLER BLOCKS. What in your brain is broken?
Think for a moment about that: adding smaller blocks that you can manually craft DOES NOT CHANGE the size of the blocks that the terrain generates by itself. Are you STILL not understanding the difference, or do I actually have to draw an MSPaint picture for you?
I will begin to understand the difference when there is one.
It's like saying there's a difference between green onions and spring onions. They're the same god damn plant, I don't care what you call it; it's the same thing.
You ask for half-scale blocks, we provide a solution which is indistinguishable from your request; you *****; we provide a riposte. That''s how this works.
I think the MC engine could use a few overhauls and 1/8th blocks amongst other things is probably the direction it should head towards. The only reason they wouldn't be naturally occurring with the 1/8th blocks as they stand now is the whole game would need to be re-optimized (which might be a good thing anyhow)
Seriously tho Minecraft 2?
Minecraft hasn't even officially hit "live" yet and your already planning its funeral?
I think Minecraft is one of those games that will continue to evolve rather than simply getting a sequel.
He could've just said that; if that's the case he's going to run into a lot of opposition.
I DID say that:

I'm not "planning it's funeral" so much as exploring an option for expansion as an overhaul rather than a new feature. I like the idea of having 8th blocks, but I'm not sure they work on a large scale as something you place yourself. I'd like to see the terrain in the game be even more extraordinary, while retaining it's blockiness.
Upon review, nobody. The posts got muddled in my head.
But still, your whining is a bit much. This forum is for suggestions to MINECRAFT. Not a sequel. So, until there's a suggestion forum for Minecraft 2, shut it and go play with the craftable blocks. Call it a demo.

Good god that's so stupid. I don't even know how to respond to something so stupid. "Don't post suggestions for a sequel JUST BECAUSE there's not a sequel in the works yet?"
Here's the dilly-o. I personally don't MIND having naturally generated 1/2 scale blocks, this was one of the initial introductions of eighth blocks, it was repealed due to overwhelming rejection. Now, you should expect 13-or-something purists crying about how your idea ruins minecraft and its blockiness. Even though the idea doesn't ruin ****.

What's stupid is suggesting a sequel when THIS GAME ISN'T EVEN DONE YET.

I'm not "suggesting a sequel". I'm exploring a game concept and recognizing that the concept, since it would obviously require the game to be rebuilt from the ground up, could not be added in this game. The only way that it COULD be added would be in a sequel.
This thread is not "I like minecraft, there should be a sequel". You are a moron for not recognizing that when I have again and again focused on the aspect of having smaller blocks altogether.
Lets sit here for a moment and imagine that this thread was made without me mentioning it being someting to be used in a potential sequel:
EVERYONE WOULD SAY "NO, the game is too far in development and this would require a complete overhaul of the code"
I mentioned a sequel to try to get morons like you, who are incapable of looking at an idea as a concept past it's initial titular description, to look at it as a game concept as a whole, irrespective of the current game's development status. But no, you are too dense and your brain stops functioning at the very utterance of the word "sequel".

Well this has been suggested in much greater detail... so your the moron for not searching.
