ATTENTION: The name void rifts is NOT based off of the 'void' area you're not supposed to get to, although it takes place in that region. Please, look past the extreme technical aspects of this, and tell me what you think of the idea itself. :tongue.gif:
This is a suggestion for a new kind of area found under bedrock. Now, before you immediately click 'reply' and tell me how it's a ripoff of the nether or some instant reply, please just READ the suggestion.
I want honest feedback, but I want it constructive. Instead of saying “Idea sucks gtfo”, how about coming up with ways to improve the idea. We can see what’s overpowered, underpowered, too odd, too much of an RPG style, whatever the reason. :wink.gif:
That way, we can come up with a really neat addition to minecraft that we can all enjoy! :biggrin.gif:
~How the Void Rifts work~
The surface of bedrock has a chance of a rift that can lead to a certain I'd like to call the Void rifts. You can call it what you want. Abyss, caves of insanity... :tongue.gif:
The area leads into a negative -y location (if this is impossible, then it might have to load a new area like the nether).
What are Void Rifts?
This new area is NOT a new realm like the mainworld or nether that generates infinitely. It's basically a huge premade cavern. The entrance to this area would be a 2x2 hole in the bedrock surface, and it is fairly rare. This area will be larger to explore than normal caverns. The majority of the rock outlining this cavern will be bedrock, but there will be blocks all around, some blocking paths in the rift. These blocks include such as stone, obsidian, and ores. No sand, gravel, or dirt will be found here. Only hard material.
This void rift has a dark presence to it. It's dark presence is so strong, any natural light will be unilluminated, such as torches, fire, or the sun. Glowstone however, will light this area up. But even glowstone here has it's disadvantage...
~Monsters, Hazards, and other Features~
Shadow Creepers:
Shadow creepers cannot be seen in the dark, and can see you regardless of the light level. They're bright green eyes will be slightly visible to you in the dark. Besides their eyes, they are completely invisible. They explode and it hurts. This would make them quite the challenge to obtain their drops! They drop gunpowder, or rarely drop one or two creeper eyes.
Vile Hound:
A dark wolf like creature with sharp fangs. This bloodthirsty animal will not stop for anything, but it really doesn’t like light and will try to stay away from it. If you’re in the light, you’re in the clear from these nasty creatures. They drop up to 2 Shadow Cloth.
Notice how the Vile Hounds and the Shadow Creepers conflict with each other as far as light and darkness. This means you’ll have to come up with a creative way to fight both of them and avoid the other. Do you want to stay in the light and get hit by a creeper? OR stay in the dark, see the creeper and get hit by both? :tongue.gif:
Dark Fire:
Any source of fire, or lava can exist in the Void Rifts... but neither of which will emit light, but in fact emit darkness. Be careful, you might fall into lava which also spawns down in the Void Rifts.
Dark Fire can be created in the void when you burn any object.
If a flint and steel is used on an item in the void rifts, dark fire can be created anywhere when you burn items with this darkened flint and steel.
Shadow Cloth:
This can be created into shadow helmet, body, legs, and boots. This unique armour is not designed to protect you by means of defence, rather by cloaking yourself, making that part of your body faded, not completely disappear.
Here’s the effects of how many shadow armour pieces you have one.
Two- You’re invisible to Zombies (unless you attack)
Three- You’re invisible to Creepers (unless you attack)
You can also make a Shadow Cloak. When wearing all four shadow items, plus weilding this cloak in your hand, your name will stay completely hidden in game (as if you’re crouched and hidden behind a wall, even in direct vision). This would be for SMP activities mainly, such as Hide and seek, but could serve some other advantage as well.
Creepvision goggles:
You’ll be able to see in the dark at all times with these equipped on your head, but degrade over time while wearing them for an hour.
Two Creeper Eyes and string can be made into Creepvision goggles like so:
= Creeper Eye
]" title="-<->" /> = String
[] [] []
]" title="-<->" />
[] [] []
With these creepvision goggles, you too can be a creep and creep people out! :biggrin.gif:
I’ll fill in some other ideas later. Post away, share you comments and suggestions here. And remember, positive, constructive feedback. Trolls begone! :smile.gif:
The void is a glitch. The bedrock ins't there to look preatty it's to stop you from getting under the world.
Typical expectation for a first post I suppose... The void is not a glitch. I know exactly what it is. An area you're not supposed to get to. Yet this is a suggestion based on the idea that either #1, Notch expands the boundaries of the map height, including depth, or #2... loading a new realm much like that of the nether.
The whole idea of these caverns being formed out of bedrock is you cant destroy it, thus making a more difficult location.
Thanks for the technical concern. What do you think of the IDEA? I assume you couldn't read the whole post that fast. You posted right after I posted the thread.:tongue.gif:

It's not a glitch per se, but neither is it unfinished. It's just the downward vertical limit to the world; the game doesn't make anything past the bedrock layer because it can't. The Bedrock is indestructible to keep you from passing it, yes, but that's just it: you are never expected to be able to pass the Bedrock layer. Ever.
If the void itself isn't a glitch, then being able to fall into it at any time is. If you are proposing pocket worlds inside Bedrock caverns above the normal Bedrock layer, then fine, but I disliked the idea once it proposed invisible creepers.
Yes the Nether is unfinished, so why should Notch add something ELSE that will be unfinished? It's a goodish idea, but the Nether needs more love before something else takes up Notch's limited time.

The next time an authority asks me, "What could possibly have given you such a lack of respect for the value of human life?" I will respond, "Sir, have you even BEEN to the internet?"
The void is there because it is the area beyond the limits of the current world generation engine. If something could be easily placed beyond those limits so that you could just drop down into it, then the void would not be there because the world generator would simply be expanded to generate more layers down to whatever the new limit was.
So building a new world under the current bedrock is pointless, because the efforts required to make it possible would be better used simply increasing the current world height/depth to fill the same space.
Me personally... I want the infinite underground back. No bedrock... it just kept going.
Yeah... Those were the days...
If nobody want a new realm/area how about my idea with the wave of darkness going across the sky. Maybe when it goes across the sky, it could spawn a few of these 'Shadow' mobs in Dungeons for the player to find and kill...
Were you the poster for minepocalypse? Or is your idea different?

Nope, I have seen the 'Minepocalypse' thread, but haven't checked it out. Have a came up with a similar idea then?
