Copper is a real material with high electric conductivity. It's pretty much the same thing as Redstone, but it could be used to make Copper ingots which could be crafted into Copper Blocks, for storage and building. Why not just rename redstone?
So you turn it into ingots? Would that mean that when you mine it you get powder that you can lay down, but smelt the powder to get ingots? I dont see how that would work, if you wanted to have copper it would need to be in a wire or else if you walked over it it would shock you. Also, you would need a conducter just like redstone does (redstone torch).
I like the idea, but when you make a suggestion there should be more detail.
Redstone power will only travel 15 blocks without repeaters or gates. Maybe Redstone could be crafted to become Copper, which would carry power indefinitely.

Or you could use repeaters and gates, as intended.

Do you show children your phallus? Is that what you want them to see?
Easy Solution! Use a texture pack to make redstone look like copper. Done.
Not trying to be unfriendly, but your suggestion would force us to rename the Redstone Compedium, Redstone Repeater, Redstone Repeater, Redstone Logic Gates, and replace "Redstone" with "Copper" throught the minecraft wiki, and confuse all the new players who look at the old LP and cannon tutorial videos on youtube.

Copper wont just randomely carry electricity indefinitely, there has to be a power source, which is what I mean by conductor, or else it will basically just be a black rope sitting on the floor.
Too bad the graphic for redstone is nowhere to be found in the texture files so we can't change it even if we hate it.
I don't want it to look like powder. I think that's dumb. Who ever built a circuit with powder??? That **** would get blown away in the wind / scattered by people and animals walking on it / mixed into the soil... you name it. Every time I lay down redstone I'm like "here we go, another day spent making powder electronics! Yaaaaay!" >:sad.gif:
If anybody knows a way to mod that graphic, PLEASE let me know.

I was about to suggest this. copper could be a new ore and building material, like iron, would have some other revolutionary use (enough of having several materials that do the exact same thing plus one or two extra things) and could be crafted into indefinite, instant redstone charge carrier. This would allow for synchronised clocks (something I have wanted to build)
to be worth implementing, copper would need its own, new, revolutionary use though. I dont want it to be just another iron except plus power carrying abilities.
@ poster above me: its there, just not in the regular terrain.png or whatever, but it is there. how else would the game load it, and how else would other textures packs change the look of it?
Excuse my grammar, I don't care about your opinion enough to forumlate complete sentences.

I've seen at least a dozen different redstone texture changes in the last week alone just browsing this forum. I'm not sure where the actual file is but I'm sure it is in the minecraft.jar somewhere.

If this thread were a girlfriend, it'd do everything but anal.
Yeah I was having the same Idea, iodized copper would be mined and smelted, you would get an ingot, then you could break that down into nuggets like gold and place the nuggets as wire. The idea is an efficient replacement for redstone. There still is the torch thing, but there are many solutions to that though. Also I don't really think it would be practical to use it for tools, just a mirror replacement for redstone.

Why would you reply to this? It was made back in 2011.. Nobody even cares about the idea anymore.
Introducing copper for a new tool tier would be nice though.

Imagine the Trolls and Trolols that would result!
