I would like to simply point out, how exactly would the leveling system work?
We could implement an EXP system. I do not think this would be a good idea. The reason being is each block would get it's own value (lets say dirt is 1 EXP and Diamonds are 100) and those values get added up over game play to access player level. This wouldn't work because how much EXP a play gets might not scale well to what a particular player finds. If a player find diamonds while he is level 20 and needs to be level 25 to craft diamond items he has been limited based on outward conditions that make no sense in a survival-type game.
As for limiting items, there would be no point in items improving if they all handled the same. The reason one would use stone items over wooden is because they are better. Being forced to use a wooden item doesn't make it more practical, it makes it more frustrating. I do not see why it matters if I only use wooden items once if I am capable of crafting better tools.
well you would level from monsters. What do you get from monsters today? string, feathers, bones, and gunpowder? thats it. why not letting the player level? and colorfusion, i know this game isnt an RPG im simply making a suggestion. thats all i wanted.

and you wouldnt be forced to be using wooden tools, you would level off of the first level by simply killing your first monster. People usually just leave monsters alone, even i do. And off of youtube i saw Lewis and Simon playing Minecraft and i loved them and just needed to get this game, they were playing an 'Adventure' map and i thought that would be cool. But all i saw was building stuff. Levels would make the game more exciting (to me). Plus, theres a mod with a gunni pig pet which levels up. so why cant we?
The only leveling system I can see that is practical in Minecraft is a temporary one. Anybody else played Cave Story? Great game. In Cave Story, you can collect items that will eventually "level" your weapon up and your weapon gains additional strength and abilities. You lose your level if you get hit. What could work is that if you level up in Minecraft your attacks and digging will go a little faster (because let's face it, the digging gets boring when you just want to make a house). And you level down every time you lose a half-heart's worth of damage. Not everybody will agree with my idea but oh well, I don't expect people to support it in the first place.

Minecraft. The game where you can have fun building things, but only if you have fun like everyone else.*
NO just fckn NO!
if you want progression, it is cool to be able to build new things when you have the possibility (wood-workbench-pick-stone-furnace-metal)
It would be cool to be able to do more things like this after having the stuff you get by now.
But needing to level up: NO NO NONONONONOOOO!
im not saying needing to level up.. you can change the 'mode' on options

Why bother if no one is going to turn it on? Except perhaps you.
