Neutral Villagers... disagree. I think the combat behavior of villagers is fine now. I do think there is an argument for villagers to have guard dogs (tamed wolves, players can't claim them) who will assist in fighting off enemies, but I don't feel the villagers need to do any fighting.
Iron Golems... yes to being a little more forgiving of hits (especially if your reputation is high), no to being weaker
Trading... expound on this. I don't think we need a whole new money system, but I could see Emeralds being broken into Emerald Shards, so you could have more granular trades like 8 Wheat = 3 Emerald Shards. That also would be nice for RP servers that use Emeralds for currency since you could have a little bit more depth to currency systems. I do also think we need "treasure" villagers, which is to say rare villager variants that you have to "earn" rather than just finding in a village but who in exchange offer especially valuable/rare resources (i.e. a Cultist who sells Nether/End materials, an Oceanologist who says aquatic blocks like Coral, a Spelunker who sells cave blocks, or even a Zoologist who sells single mob eggs at high markups). These could replace the Wandering Trader, who I find to be kinda... pointless at the moment, and/or the Wandering Trader could be changed to just have randomly selected trades from villagers. In short, I agree that the whole trading system could be upgraded, but I'd like to see you flesh it out
Buildings... Sure, yeah. I'm fine with buildings now but as new materials come out, I'd like to see some of those incorporated. Also, village generation is still kinda meh, so I'd love to see that revamped again, too
I agree that Villager AI is terrible, but Mojang had lots of opportunities to patch this, what I consider a glitch at this point, but they're refusing to for some weird reason.
I'm fed up of cleaning up after Villagers that are too ignorant of reality to learn from their own mistakes, so are friends who play on my worlds.
At least children know to stay away from something if it causes them pain, but Villagers are way worse, they keep putting themselves into the same hazards over and over again until it kills them.
and animal AI is no different, just recently I spotted a turtle that went onto a campfire and died, but this needs another thread for a different topic.
1. The whole point of villagers is to be helpless, and needs protection from the iron golem
2. That one just doesn’t make sense
3. there is only one iron golem. It needs to protect the whole village from zombies until the player has the resources to build a new one, so a nerf would make villages die off pretty quickly
4. yeah, this one makes sense. The last one is a great idea.

It does. Golems are hostile towards zombies ect but passive agressive towards players. The golem would still chase down every zombie he tracks.
Sometimes you want to mine something in a village and a villager just manages to walks in front of you, taking a hit.
Wich triggers the golem to hate you. Sometimes you just hit them accidently.
Eather way, the golem is a potential problem you need to keep an eye on, when you do business in villages.
The golem shouldn't attack players at all, his role is to protect villagers from hostile mobs. The golem isn't necessary to tell a new player that villagers aren't ment to be killed. If you actually want to eliminate villagers the golem isn't a problem at all, since you can just pillar up a few blocks and take him out or kill him with projectiles from a safe distance.

Villagers were never intended to be hostile in any way- hence the Iron Golems to protect them. personally, I think the Iron Golems should be made tougher, not weaker, seeing as they're almost completely ineffective when it comes to fending off raids or other hostiles. ...I don't think the village buildings need new improvements, especially given the recent update, though there could definitely be some tweaks to generation. It's actually pretty rare I find a village with vanilla terrain gen. that isn't broken.

They still should in my opinion make Villager AI smarter and evade hazards where possible. But they don't, Minecraft villagers behave worse than children do in real life.
If there is an Iron Golem about they won't even try to get behind one to make the Iron Golem do the heavy lifting for them. They just box themselves inside a house and then if on hard difficulty, the doors get smashed down even on the first night and zombies corner them.
Players have their own stuff to worry about and shouldn't even need to worry about villagers doing stupid things all the time.
I dare say that villager AI is unbalanced for all the reasons I've just mentioned,
yes they give you valuable trades, but that's if they're still alive.

That might be the difficult part.
If a village gets raided and every villager just freaks out checking for a realy safe spot, they would probably just leave the village.
If villagers would try to hide behind golems they would just form a bigger target.
Since Golems are also targets of raids and zombies this wouldn't work to well.
It would be a good step to make them at least not jump down areas they can't climb back up and avoid areas with dark light levels.
They would still strafe around cave entrances but eventually cut the corner in the neck of time.
Plus you don't need to search underground for missing villagers. That's my biggest problem about their ai.

I agree, but villager AI should be programmed to seek assistance either from Iron Golems or players, if that means Villager NPC's attempt to get behind players during a raid then so be it. I understand that in the case of a Witch they don't have many ways to defend against, if they're poisoned, they're screwed after something else deals the finishing blow, the player really must intervene to stop this from happening because this is the biggest threat imo.
Of course Ravagers and Evokers do a lot of damage too, but they don't throw splash poison potions
so should in theory be easier for villagers to evade.
Right now all the Villagers do is run around and put themselves into more dangerous situations, such as in darker areas.
There's nothing more frustrating, about beating a raid only to find out all your villagers had been killed,
negating the benefits of defeating the raid, which is cheaper prices on trades.
And it's not the players fault,
It's Mojang's, for not patching mob AI to be more competent of their environment.
I know it's only a game, but no game should have characters act this stupid.

• villagers should be a neutral mob and they would hit you if you hit them just like an iron golem.
Disagree
They're essentially civillians.
• iron golems should only intervene if you hit them more than once, and should definitely be nerfed.
DIsagree
They're protectors of a village, they need to be a present enough threat
• they should upgrade trading so it isnt just with emeralds.
Agree
Definitely, having more varied trading would be more interesting and fun, however we still need to consider the strategies a play would do to amass wealth, and removing the vital currency's spot as the sole currency of emeralds, would mess up that. Would take some considering.
• they should upgrade village buildings again!
Meh
I think they're quite fine as they are now, with variation and changes depending on biomes. Definitely keeps the villages fresh

Villagers need to be smart for not falling down and trap themselves.
Which is why it should be considered a glitch
Villagers have no built in algorithm that forces them to assess their environment and plan their next move,
they're the opposite of chess AI.
Villagers behave like almost every other mob in the game, they fail to avoid hazards even when it is right there in front of them
and they could simply walk around them.
You don't even have to make a trap to cause villagers to kill or trap themselves,
they could be next to a ravine and just walk right off the edge.
Most players are at least competent enough to avoid falling into a ravine, since without feather falling, potion of slow falling or water at the bottom you're screwed.
Reminds me of how an entire village of villagers disappeared, and we found all of them in an underground railway that a friend of mine had made. There was only a trapdoor path, yet all of them went down there and never returned

The annoying thing about golems is that the villagers are so stupid that they walk in front of you when you try to break a block, so if u accidentally hit a villager, you’re dead.

Same reason Piglin can be annoying to be around in the Nether, they can accidentally walk in front of you whilst you're mining, you hit them and then they gang attack you.
This is why I sometimes turn friendly fire off in multiplayer games, because I don't want coop team mates hurting me or other players by accident then causing an argument.
Unfortunately with Villagers being stupid PVP setting has no affect on it, because they are AI they can circumvent most of the restrictions you could realistically place on them without a mod. The frustrating thing is Villagers are not supposed to be hostile, but indirectly, they are.
I've seen a friend get killed twice on the same night by Iron Golems in server messages weeks ago on my Minecraft server,

villagers have such horrible AI that they sometimes just jump into lava.
there really needs to be another village update (although there have already been 2) that improves their AI!
