I would create main version 2 with huge differences. I don't mean that i would stop working with version 1, I would keep upgrading it.
Minecraft version 2.1 would be like this:
1. years and seasons (spring, summer, autumn, winter), also player would live for defined years, so not forever.
2. player's skills for attack, farming, mining, trading and much more. For example, higher mining skill would break blocks faster with less pickaxe damaging. Of course, skills improve when used often - maybe vice versa too, e. g. if player's last swimming would've been one year ago, swimming skill level would decrease and swimming would then be slower and more tiring. Starting skills levels would be random and very low.
3. Talking in villages - player could talk to villager to hire him as player's worker, player would give him few emeralds per day as salary, also weapons/armors/tools, player could command him e. g. to harvest crops, to go mining, to go with player fighting - of course this is only basic, there should be more details about this
4. Player's family - there could be women in villages, maybe female zombie pigmen in the nether too. When giving her enough flowers, emeralds, gold or diamonds etc., woman would fall in love with player and she would become player's wife. Player could somehow make love with her and get kid. His mother would take care for him, player should take care about family's safety and enough food. When kid would become adult, he would have 10% of father's skills levels. I don't know what to do with adult kid. He could become independent and go away (player would see his location on a special map) or he could stay with player.
5. Vertical slabs and placing different slabs on one block height. This way house could have one color on outer side and another color on inner side of the same wall or floor or ceiling.
6. Redstone dust, repeater and comparator would have 0.5 height so we could place top slab 0.5 meter above blocks where these redstone items would be placed.
This is it for now. What do you think?
Half of this stuff has either been suggested hundreds of times or is just completely ridiculous. While I agree that being able to put slabs on top of red stone is a good idea, vertical slabs, seasons, and advanced interaction with villagers have all been suggested way too much. Having a kid with NPCs? Not only is that pretty controversial as is, but it makes the game more like sims and less of the sandbox game that minecraft really is. Having skills for each thing you do also makes things overly complex, I don’t want to have to grind dozens of different tasks just to compare to some other person, and the idea that you can join a world and already have the ability to get the maximum amount of power possible is much more appealing.
Last of all, posts are supposed to be limited to one idea only.

Mojang has confirmed they will not be adding female villagers, as they are neither male nor female.
And I think the redstone being under a slab idea is just a limitation of the game's design.
