First, I'm sure this topic has been raised before, but it would appear not recently, and my ideas are pretty fleshed out so I don't think it's a problem.
So. We know that Notch is adding wolves in the next update, so why not cats? I propose two different cats: lions and domestic cats.
Lion
Lions can be found in savanna and grass desert biomes, and act as natural predators. They will lounge about for most of the day, but at dawn and dusk the females (male lions have the mane things, and female lions don't) will go out and hunt non-hostile mobs. If the player comes near a lion or lion group, the lion(s) will look at the player and growl. If the player provides meat by selecting it and right-clicking on a lion, the lion will gain a small collar and be tamed. However, if the player fails to provide meat within five or ten seconds, the lion will attack. When in a group of lions, each lion tamed will reset the timer for the other cats so you have more time. Once tamed, lions act just like wolves.
Domestic cat
Domestic cats can randomly be found in the same biomes as wolves. Depending on how complex Notch wants them to be, there would be many different looks or just a generic tabby. When you find a cat in the wild, it will behave like other passive mobs. However, if you right click on it with a bucket of milk, the cat will become tamed and will gain a collar. Domestic cats don't have any actual purpose, but will follow you just like other pets. However, if you right click on it with another ball of yarn, it will stop following you but won't despawn, allowing you to have a pet that stays at home.
I would actually like this. There should be a difference between lions and wolves though. And instead of giving a cat a ball of yarn to domesticate it, you should feed it milk. The yarn still makes it stay in place.
I would just like to say that giving a dog a bone to tame, and giving a "cat" a ball of yarn, is totally unbalanced
since yarn is made up of string, which is pretty hard to get sometimes (since you will usually make a bow/fishing rod first)
and also
since you can easily get bones, when one night has gone by (Skeletons burn in the sun)
Rethink?

These guys make awesome art for Mods (Items, New Blocks and Mobs)
I will be using them soon

I aggree. I'm kinda 20/80 on domesticated cats (not exactly in favor).
I'm kinda thinking of them as more like the wolves that they will be adding. How about only 1-3 lions can follow you at once? The wolves they have seem already overpowered because who's stopping you from getting 45 wolves, then going around punching things to watch the results?
Perhaps they will be slower, but more powerful than wolves.

I'm afraid I don't agree with you, Magic Bennie; naming is pretty much pointless and since I want lions to parallel wolves and wolves probably won't be nameable I just don't like it, and different colors? If you mean for lions, that makes no sense as lions only have like one or two colors, and if you mean for domestics, I have already covered that.
I'm not sure your ideas are necessary, Gunnar120, as, like I said, lions are meant to parallel wolves, and so I just want them to act the same way as wolves.
I'm not really fond of lions, but some kind of big cat would be lovely. I'm thinking more along the lines of cheetas or panthers, but it would be awesome, if the species were appropriate to the biome they spawn in. I'm just a little prejudiced against manes. I hadn't thought about domestic cats or dogs really, but if we're doing that, we definitely need capybaras... seriously.
Good idea! I think Notch would probably change some things if he does add them to the game but keep is mostly like this. I would like to see them! :smile.gif:
Very, very, good idea. I just hope the cats and wolves don't fight.
There should be a small chance of them fighting randomly. That would make this slightly more fun. Like you would have to calm them down somehow.
I never thought of that! I think it would be cool for lions and wolves to fight. It's not like they'd find each other often; I think wolves only spawn in more green areas, and lions would only spawn in drier areas.
what about tigers? Shouldnt they be included as well if lions are?
My original post was going to include tigers, but I realized it would be redundant and to have two wild species of cats and only one species of dogs would be unbalanced.

I completely forgot to change the taming for domestic cats to milk. Now it is correct.
And you can name them, and There are different colors!
This NEEDS to be put in.
Come to think about it, Mine-craft needs allot of need things added to it before it's finished!Cats being one of them.

What would a lion drop though? (if you killed it)
You are now aware that every time you yawn you hear a crackle in your ear.
