Imagine you spawn in Nether, or stuck because your portal is destroyed.
How will you survive?
Coal is cheap and easy to get ingredient for early stage of the Game.
If you can build Furnace in Nether now, you should be able to get a lot of coal also.
But it does not make sence to have Coal in Hell. It is another dimension and should have as less as possible ores from overworld.
That's why I suggest to replace coal in the Nether for something else similar in function
There is debate on whether the Nether is truly a new dimension or just the lower underground of the Overworld from a storytelling perspective. I see it as the latter so to me ores crossing over is expected, it's whatever didn't melt in the lava. Coal would melt though.
Cobblestone is not naturally found in the Nether either, as another topic here mentions. Yet you want to use furnaces.
The Wiki is a bit unclear on whether that can be made from Nether logs.
You can't. I distinctly remember reading the patch notes for a snapshot and seeing they fixed a bug where the new stems/planks could be used as fuel. It makes perfect sense since the mushrooms would have adapted to become fireproof after being surrounded by lava.

Watch out for the crabocalypse. Some say the day will never come. But it will.
Feel free to drop by for a chat whenever.
If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
Soul campfire is cool, but it use coal to craft.
I find this strange, because there is no coal in Nether.
Soul campfire is an object that belongs to Nether. So, it must use only that components which you can find in Nether.
You can find wood in new biomes thanks to update. But coal should not be in Nether.
I suggest to add new object (ore) to replace coal for Nether.
You can get coal by killing wither skeletons even if that would make it rare.
You can use charcoal instead of coal, can't you?
The Wiki is a bit unclear on whether that can be made from Nether logs.
Just testing.
It is too complicated and dangerous.

Why not find out for yourself?

Blackstone is a Nether Cobblestone.
Same should be for coal
It was just added today, so I didn't know. I'll go take a look at it right now, actually.
