Here is a list of new ores that could be added to Minecraft.
Copper Ore - An ore that can be smelted into copper ingots. Copper can be used to craft copper tools and armor. They would have strength and durability intermediate between stone and iron, however, copper ore would be more common than iron ore. Copper would also be a good conductor of electricity. Redstone power can be transmitted through copper blocks. Wires could also be crafted using copper and redstone. Wires would work similar to redstone but do not require a block under them to be placed and can go vertically.
Copper Wire:
Amethyst Ore - A rare ore found in the End that would drop amethyst. Amethyst can be used to craft amethyst tools and armor. Amethyst tools and armor would have strength and durability intermediate between iron and diamond. Amethyst could also be used for enchanting. Although lapis lazuli can be used for enchanting, amethyst would make an enchantment table give stronger enchantments. For example, amethyst could make the enchantment table give a sword Sharpness V instead of Sharpness III at the same xp cost as when enchanting with lapis lazuli. Lastly, amethyst can be used to craft amethyst blocks.
Gold Netherrack Ore - Similar to gold ore found in the overworld but the gold is in netherrack instead of stone. Gold nentherrack ore would obviously generate in the Nether instead of the overworld. Zombie pigmen have golden swords so gold ores in the Nether would make pig zombies having gold make sense.
Starting off with Gold Netherrack Ore and going backward, I don't have a problem with gold in the nether, and I think it'd make sense, even if gold doesn't have that many uses.
I'm not a fan of adding another tool tier, and I don't think Amethyst is special enough that I would use both Diamond and Amethyst at the same time. At most this might help if I need to make a new tool/sword in the End and I have some wood on me. If this is what you want, I think I'd rather just have iron, gold or diamond spawn in the End rather than create a new tool ore.
As for Amethyst's enchantment properties, it seems like they could be useful, but only if I'm lacking bookshelves or if it could bypass some limit that a maxed-out enchantment table with 3 lapis has that I'm not aware of.
Again with the Copper, I'm not a fan of intermediate tiers of tools considering we already have one useless tier of tools. The only time you'd really use copper is if you're mining in the mountains, and I'm not sure why throughout this whole suggestion I've been interjecting with "The only time you'd really need this" a whole lot.
Copper wire seems useful, but it's not enough of a use that I think warrants a new ore all on its own. Gold is also conductive, why not have gold wires instead?
Overall, I think Nether Gold is good, but the other two ores need more uses to warrant adding into the game.

My avatar is a texture from a small block game I made in Python. It's not very good and it probably won't work if you install it.
I'm very alone in my Minecraft worlds as I don't have a very good internet connection to run a server. If you're like me, you might be interested in my Posse mod suggestion.
Considering the nether gold ore, and the fact it is in the Nether, why not have mining it anger zombie pigmen in a small radius? Currently, they only get angry when they are attacked, and this would add an extra layer of challenge to the Nether outside of the fortresses. Really, going around the regular portions of the Nether and only getting attacked by the occasional ghast when mining for quartz is kinda boring. This would encourage the player to be a bit sneakier when mining ores and have to make sure no zombie pigmen are able to get a line of sight to the player before mining the ore. Considering they love their gold swords and even gold armor, I'd bet they'd be willing to fight tooth and nail to keep it.
