Do you guys agree that it would be awesome to have Killer Whales added to the game? I feel that minecraft is lacking on large mobs and due to their recent work on the oceans, it got me thinking about adding Killer Whales. They could normally be passive unless provoked and would deal very high damage with alot of health. They could spawn in deep ocean biomes and be very rare as seeing these beasts often would not really make much sense. These cannot just be the polar bears of the sea though, they need a purpose. They can drop something speical but because mojang has recently been careful about "animal cruelty" they may not want killer whales to drop anything. Instead we can possibly tame them with alot of fish and then ride them across the ocean! Mojang can not call riding a Killer Whale animal abuse like they did with dolphins as in real life a Killer Whale can easily carry a human on its back, so this seems perfect. Please tell me what you guys think about adding Killer Whales to minecraft and feel free to suggest things that would add on to this mob.
Thanks for the feedback but riding the whale would still serve a purpose as it can jump, possibly move faster, be able to go under water, and it would have much more health than a boat.
Given MS/Mj's "reasoning" about sharks [to wit: some typre are endangered and they can be dangerous if you try to interact with them in real life], this is probably another "never ever" addition....
[Of course the same "reasoning" can be applied to just about anything (chipmunks included if you consider Hanta) so how sea turtles and tropical fish made it into the game is a bit of a mystery ]
All that aside, RW whaling of orca produced the same meat and whale oil as from larger species (just less of it and at higher cost). The teeth also saw some use as an ivory substitute.
The difficulty with these as a MC addition is that they fill (roughly speaking) the same ecological niche as dolphins in RL, making differentiating the two quite difficult in the simplified realm of MC.

I see what your saying but I dont think that Killer Whales would bring any problems. First of all, killer whales are not endangered and players wouldnt be encouraged to kill them as it would be a passive mob which only attacks if you attack first (similar to the polar bear). Like you said, we have sea turtles (an endangered speicies). If sea turtles can exist in Minecraft then Orcas can exist too. And yes, interacting with an Orca in real life would be extremely dangerous, but you can say the same thing about Polar Bears. Also, its not like a kid is going to play minecraft, see an orca, play around with it, and then try that in real life. Simply being able to see an Orca in person is hard to do. About dolphins, Orcas and dolphins do have similarities but they would definetly be two very different mobs. I dont really see that as much of an issue. Anyway, Thank you for your feedback!!

My point was that MS/Mj "reasoning" on this point is contradictory to the point if appearing random, and political considerations vis-a-vis the "Save the Whales"/"Greenpeace"/"Greens" groups may trump any logical argument.]
Simply being able to see an Orca in person is hard to do. ["Hard" is subjective/relative; they are actually a favorite of whale watchers due to their comparative accessibility.]
About dolphins, Orcas and dolphins do have similarities but they would definetly be two very different mobs. I dont really see that as much of an issue.
This is the important bit…
Showing people — by detailing the behaviors (including drops, if any) — that and how the your implementation of a killer whale mob is different from the 1.13/14 dolphins is the first step to garnering support.
The second step is explaining why/how those differences make your killer whale mob a good additional addition.
I'm not saying it can't be done; I'm saying I'm not (yet) seeing the arguments or the supporting details to make a convincing case.

Alright, I can explain the differences between the mobs. The dolphin mobs purpose is to lead you to buried treasure. The Orca cannot do this. The Orca would be more like an ocean horse. While we do not know the dolphin mobs spawn rate yet, the Orca would be much rarer to see. The Orca would be much stronger and much larger in size to the dolphin. They would have different behaviors as well. Yes, they would both spawn in groups but the Orca would act as much more of a predator than the dolphin. It would hunt ocean mobs such as squids, dolphins (yes, it would eat the mob im comparing it to), and maybe even guardians. It would be awesome watching a group of Orcas go and raid a guardian temple! I think they would be two very different mobs.
Then you want me to explain why this would be a good additional mob? Well, like I said before they would be like the horses of the sea. There are no rideable ocean mobs and while you could say dolphins, you do not ride them you just grab onto them. You will have full control over the Orca. While you can also say boats are like rideable ocean mobs, the Orca would be much different. It can jump, go under water, and have far more health than a boat. Also, minecraft is very lacking on large sized mobs. This would help fix that problem.

1. Make it a Mod! Please do not force anyone to play your game, just as I do not try and force you to play mine!
2. Look at Orcas in Puget Sound... they are endangered!
I did not know about these Orcas in Pudget Sound, thanks for letting me know. And I am not capable of making a minecraft mod lol, im just leaving a suggestion.
We known Ghasts (4x4x4 plus tentacles) work, but how much larger a mob can be made without creating issues is unknown (The Ender dragon is a special case.) How much larger do you envsion?
Some types of orca have been known to predate dolphins & porpoises IRL, so that part is logical. [MS/Mj concern for "age-appropiate content" is another issue. ]
Squid killing opens the possibility of orca assisting in ink gathering (either by "burping up" the ink sacs) or by the "tame"/befriended version having an AI that preferentially hunts squid above a player. [No retriever functioning mob currently exist IRRC.]
Targeting guardians also offers different posibilities and might give a special function to "tame"/befriended examples. [I don't think such would be of great use inside the temple, but having a few 'on patrol' while one was working in open water nearby would be useful... particularly given the announced changes in the air meter refresh and visibility mechanics.]
Rather than the dolphin assist mechanic (still awaiting details on that from MS/Mj), or an aquatic horse equivalent, or a 'living boat';
. . . . . . perhaps the orca mob would be a single ride mount requiring 're-taming' [With what? Fish?, if so maybe different types give different improvements to the chance of catching a lift.] for each ride, departing afterwards.
tilizing not just the ability to go underwater, but also the ability to swim up rapids / waterfalls [granted a stretch given the RW critter; call it artistic license] would give an ability boats do not match. (The one-ride-per-"taming" mechanic would be important to prevent creating a boat replacement.)
This would also solve the issue of why it should remained 'parked' as well as help differentiate them from boats. [Boats would thus be certain to be available, but have inferior speed and be limited to flat and downward surface movement. ]
The desired large size would also act as an additional deterent to building water roads. [It might also be well if this new mob was unable to move (or to move well) on ice.]
Implementing the above would remove most motivation for killing these. This coiuld be furthered by having the "drop" be a same sized carcass that was unusually persistant (long despawn) and inflicted nausea as a lingering effect in an area around it.

Those are all good ideas. I like your "one ride per tame" idea. It would keep boats from becoming useless and it would make sure the Orca is not overpowered.
Yeah, riding it isnt needed but it would definately be fun. Im just trying to think of some sort of purpose of this mob so it doesnt end up like the polar bear.
As a person with great knowledge and obsession with orcas, I think the ability to tame them wouldn’t be added. Orcas, being the most feared predator of the ocean are highly misunderstood and are actually very curious and playful. They like to follow boats to see whats going on. It’s strange that they see everything in the ocean as food but are completely fine with humans. Back to Minecraft, taming an orca wouldn’t make much sense. They are wild animals and are not meant to bond with humans to the point they stay with each other forever. Before anyone says “bUt FoXeS aNd WoLvEs CaN bE tAmEd”, they are capable of being pets in real life. Orcas wouldn’t make it into pet stores in a million years. Instead, orcas should be able to trust the player just like dolphins do. Also riding an orca is not as humane as it looks.

Ok first. You missed a pun about purpose/pourpus
Second. I think that this is a really good idea, however we already have boats. So riding them would be cinda useless.
Third. I think that they should attack polar bears and polar bears should attack them. That would be cool.
4. 90% support

Puget Sound Orcas only eat Salmon... that is probably why they are endangered... Man would never over fish any species, would he?
There are transient pods that visit the area that eat seals and other mammals. I don't think humans are on that list.
