Suggestion: Fix banner draw distance.
As stated, banners need to have a better draw distance. I'm currently working on a very impressive build if I do say so myself. The only problem is the banners disappear from view within a certain distance ruining the aesthetic of the build. As far as I know it's the only item/block that does this. Quite sad really since banners can be very useful.
Please fix this Mojang.

This happens because they are tile entities and all tile entities which are not a "normal" block have a maximum render distance of 64 blocks (a "normal" block is one which does not require any special rendering, like a furnace; for some tile entities only part of them are affected, like the mob in a mob spawner and the book on an enchantment table, while chests are affected entirely since they are entirely rendered using a tile entity special renderer).
Entities (including particles) are also subject to this, with the distance depending on their size, which can be less than 16 blocks for the smallest entities (in this case the distance is the average edge length times 64). I do not know why these are hardcoded and not subject to render distance; the most likely reason for the limit in the first place is optimization because both types of entities are vastly more resource-intensive to render than normal blocks (they must be re-rendered every frame as opposed to only during chunk updates and are not subject to hidden surface or occlusion culling):
A TESR is called every frame. That means, that it can slow down Minecraft a lot if too many TileEntities with a TESR are rendered simultaneously. If you're planning to create blocks that are needed frequently, for instance energy pipes or something similar, consider the possible loss of performance before creating a (complicated) TESR.
One solution would be to add a render distance slider for entities (I'm surprised that Optifine has not added one yet, unless they have since 1.6.4 but I have not heard of this).

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
