I've tested it out, and jumping from a height of 7 blocks takes away 1.5 hearts from you no matter what the block you're landing on is (excluding water, lava, etc...) In real life, jumping onto stone from a height should hurt reasonably more than jumping on to wool; of course, in Minecraft, the wool is in block form, so in real life, it would hurt as much as jumping onto a mattress. Also, the player should be able to pass through a lilypad when falling through it (such as passing through a block in spectator mode, or passing through a cobweb but way faster), because in real life that's what would happen- you'd just slide off it and find yourself in water.
Jumping onto stone from a 15 block height takes away 50% of a player's health but jumping onto wool should inflict damage of 30%. Here are my suggestions (15 block height).
Slime Block: 10% (I know it takes the fun out of the slime block, but in reality, it's like jumping from 30,000 feet high onto a mattress without getting hurt. There should be a setting to keep the slime block damage off and on.)
Sand: 40% (Smoother than dirt)
Coal Block: 80%
Water: 20% (In real life it hurts to jump in water from a high distance but I don't think this should be affiliated with landing damage)
I'd rather not sacrifice the cool things we can currently do like use water to quickly descend or gut a lot of the use and fun of Slime Blocks, just to take a stab at making the game slightly more realistic in a way that most players will never notice.
No support from me.

hmmm I quite like the idea but I'm not happy with the block percentage. I would happily support this idea if slime and water did 0% damage like it does. and for the record: THIS IS A VIDEO GAME ABOUT PUNCHING BLOCKY TREES WITH YOUR BLOCKY FISTS. ITS NOT MEANT TO BE REALISTIC.
