For a while now I've wanted a truly automatic storage system, only issue is that it doesn't work like that. I've also wanted to make pressure plateless piston doors and Shulkerless eye scanners, so I had came up with an idea. The 'Reader' block, this block has the function of an observer, chest, hopper and comparator all in one, and with out even opening a single menu. Function 1: If an entity were to walk up against or at max is 1.5 blocks away from the Reader it sends a Redstone signal, similar to an Observer. Function 2: It can store up to 9 stacks of items if put into Storage Mode*, it can't be taken out by Hoppers but it can be taken out of other Readers on a vertical axis. Function 3: If a player stands on top of a Reader it will read the first 9 items of the players' inventory, depending if it's on Storage or Read Mode*, if it's on Storage it takes the items instead. Lastly, Function 4: If the Reader is in Read mode and a player stands on top of a Reader it will check the players' first 9 items and check if the Reader's Intput calls for said item. The more items in the players' first 9 keys that match up with the Reader's Intput the stronger the Redstone output. That may sound confusing but if I new how to make mods I could have probably showed it off. *When the block is placed it's automatically in Read Mode, using the 'use' button will cause it to change modes (possibly have a slight texture change when that happens to identify) Also, you must shift-click while it's detecting you to open up it's storage and reader requirements.

I have seen truly automatic storage systems that automatically sort the items. Search "Minecraft item sorter" on youtube

Pressureplateless oiston doors are possible. Use string or picking up items through corners

No

So you can steal items from another player's inventory and use a hopper minecart to transport them to the other side of the map. This would be abused. if it's on Storage it takes the items instead. Lastly, Function 4: If the Reader is in Read mode and a player stands on top of a Reader it will check the players' first 9 items and check if the Reader's Intput calls for said item.

This should be multiple blocks, and some should be removed.

It has it's flaws. I need to work out the kinks and all, don't presume that it's instantly complete.
