On multiplayer once I found a secret underground temple behind a waterfall. It led to an iron corridor with a table at the end. The table had cake on it. So I walked forward, not at all worried that the floor was made of stone, or that one section was slightly taller. I walk past, Click? Then the wall behind me exploded and lava poured in. And I didn't drown it it, like bjbond says. It melted my lungs before I could draw breath :biggrin.gif:
More to the point, I think you should be able to collect on stick and one of whatever the tool was made of (Wood, Stone, ect.)
I actually suggested that iron doors could be converted to 4 scrap metal, then the scrap metal could be cooked into iron bars.
I also think that if you had suggested this earlier, I would have started screaming 'USE THE SEARCHBAR!!!!'.

For tools - The tools have to be unused and if they used just a little bit you can't get the materials back.

When a tool gets low durability, take it apart, get your resources back, then build it again for full durability! Yay!Ninja'd
