Isn't it annoying if your building and you want to use ice or snow layers, but you need lighting nearby and they melt? This could be fixed with a simple gamerule, doIceMelt. (the name might change, but this is the best i have right now) When turned off it keeps Ice and snow layers from melting when near a light source.
Edit: it also prevents frosted ice from melting now

This is a nice idea! I had some trouble with things melting near lighting before, and this would totally help fix that. Full support.
Fits pretty well with other gamerules, and I could see myself using it. This has my support. Though I still have a question: does Frost Walker ice melt when this command is turned false?
Not sure I can support this. Seems to be a direct affront to reason and reality which the game needs. Snow and ice melt near a fire. Might be abble to say that glowstone lights do not melt things, but torches should melt them.

It's a gamerule, meant for mapmakers and not regular survival players. For the majority of your actual playing, you would have it set to the default of true. But, in the case you are building something for either an adventure map or just to show off, having the ability to prevent snow from melting would be useful. In addition, the game doesn't need reason or reality. Sure it has them, but that should never come at the cost overall fun, and having your ice palace either melting or dark as night isn't fun. I Support this.

Realism is not as important as player choice in Minecraft. Realism is not, in fact, very important at all for Minecraft.

Yeah, I never thought about that, but it is a pretty good idea that the frost walker doesn't melt. Since it's ment for creative it wouldn'tbreak the enchantment or anything, so i think it should

If you really think it should be realistic then why can we break trees and most other blocks with our fist in a matter of seconds, or how come we can wear diamond armor which would probably weigh too much for a normal human to carry. Also It's a gamerule meaning that it's only available through commands, and it's for mapmakers, not survival
Thinking if there's any existing gamerule this could be added to, but I can't really think of any. Are there other blocks that could be affected by this, to make the rule a bit more versatile?
Not that it's necessary, this is pretty good overall.
It could stop water from freezing to ice as well! It's so annoying when I place a water source very high up and it freezes, so I have to light it up but then the snow around melts, and sometimes it's inconvenient to place a torch up there due to lack of space to put it or whatnot. Definitely support.

A really good idea. I hate when my igloos go to crap because of a torch.

The idea sounds awesome! To go with with it for those who would want to use it for what ever reason, Maybe a light source that doesn't melt snow.

This wouldn't have a problem being in the game.
I also like the idea of Frosted Ice being affected by this.

If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.

A simple and small idea that is perfect for all builders that want ice or snow layers on their building, but need lighting nearby. Support

I'm always up for new gamerules, and this is definitely a useful one.
