Let's face it. Deserts are a bit of an eyesore. Desert temples and villages do a little but not much variety in deserts. Lets change it for the better! How about naturally spawning oasises? That would be an interesting sight to behold. Another user (can't remember his username) gave me another great idea. Branching cacti. Instead of cacti being just straight poles with green coloring and spikes on it, the cacti would have branches. Changing the cacti to look more like fences wouldn't hurt either.
How about a bit of scorpions crawling around here and there? Alright scorpions will be hostile. They will have 2-3 hearts (still deciding). They won't be abundant due to becoming a nuisance if added and abundant. They will give you 3 seconds of poison 2 since scorpions can be poisonous in real life. They will be about the size of a silverfish with its stinger above itself and small pinchers forward away in front of his head like a real scorpion. Killing them just gives xp. There is a 2% chance that a scorpion will appear after breaking a regular sand block.
Eltodofull gave me a great idea: quicksand! Okay so quicksand will have a slightly but noticeably different color than sand, so you can avoid it. If you or mobs fall into it you will slowly sink before suffocating inside it. You can break it with a shovel and it will be useful for making traps. Thanks again to Eltodofull.
Below is an idea posted on this thread by Flo1005 that goes into a lot more detail for oasises:
I just arrived on this topic and i am really interested in the Oasis and I think the developers can remove the river biome from the desert and add a new oasis biome who had more vibrant color than the rest of the desert to make a contrast between the desert and the Oasis.
The Oasis could have dirt, grass, water and trees and could be from a little water source to a big lake but still little and rare in the giant desert.
For the trees, I think the developers could add a whole new tree who will grow in beaches, jungles and oasis, the Palm Tree[/b] !!
The new palm tree will drop a new kind of wood, the "palm wood ?" who works like the others but with a different color. They can be tall or short, vertical or tilted. The Palm tree can grow on sand and on dirt (beach and jungle).
So what do you think of my idea, tell me what is not good and what could be better thank you for reading ! Thanks to Flo1005 for more info on oasises. Add more of your ideas here if you want. Enjoy.
I'm with ThePiDay 110% on this. Even though I love how deserts look (large open expanse of a material that is pleasant to look at and sounds soothing to dig up and walk on? Mmmmm relaxing) this would be nice.

Killing them just gives xp because I don't want to worry about drops and its uses. There is that enough?

I personally think this would be a rather good suggestion, but maybe (this is just my added on suggestion) a slightly higher spawn rate near oasi, due to the fact that things like being near water? And agreeing with BlackAbscence on the cacti thing. This seems to be a good suggestion actually, nice job.
My suggestion is that they would have an approx 1-500 chance to generate a monster egg, of sand, that would naturally spawn in deserts and spawn a scorpion when broken. Beyond that, looks good!

Okay then but I would rather have a 2% chance. Thanks Nighthawk.

Will do Zyngard. How high a spawn rate are we talking here?
I like this idea. Just throwing this out there, but there could also be a larger version of the scorpions as as a boss. Maybe it would even summon the smaller scorpions?

Fable? Is that a mod or a video game? Wait don't answer that I will look it up. Ah the resourcefulness of Googling what you want to know! Sometimes it is a curse though tbh!

Yeah I'd be fine with this, but the scorpions could use some more detail.

Go into more detail with the scorpions, but I (surprisingly) don't see anything else wrong.
And I do think deserts could be freshened up a little.
Watch out for the crabocalypse. Some say the day will never come. But it will.
Feel free to drop by for a chat whenever.
If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
"Let's face it. Deserts are a bit of an eyesore."
Have you seen a dessert in real life? I'd say Minecrafts one is pretty apt.
"naturally spawning oasises?"
"Branching cacti."
"scorpions crawling around?"
All sound okay if implemented right.
"Changing the cacti to look more like fences wouldn't hurt"
In my opinion, it would. However, I do think that the branching parts should be smaller than it's main stem.
We'll need more statistics of the Scorpion mob.
I've personally wanted Scorpions to replace Spiders within desserts for quite some time.

There ya go. Answered your question :).

Lel you confused me on that one. Thanks I guess. I actually am speechless.
The only other thing I would recommend is to improve readability.
Take your massive paragraph and add some white space. Don't know what white space is?
It's the nothingness you see between "?" and "It's".
I hope that makes sense. The idea is to turn your one paragraph into 2~3 just so it's not a wall of text.

The scorpions coming out of the sand would be a cool feature.

That sounds like the Emperor Scorpion boss in the Orespawn mod LordBlackWolf. I don't really want to go into a lot of detail in a new boss right now.
Actually I was thinking of Fable when I posted that. Fair enough.

like the idea of the spawning desert oasies. And no support for cacti & that mob you
want.
