Almost every Placeable block in the game, that is made out of wood, Ends up Looking like wood type you crafted with. Except chests.
with the new Addition of Shulker boxes, and the fact you can dye them with all the 16 different dyes, makes me realise how weird it is that this is not implemented yet.
I dont have models or something yet but here are a few ideas-
* You could place different kind of chests next to each-other without them combining, which would allow to not use trapped chests when trying to make compat storage.
* Not all chests have to be the same model with different colours, For example, a birch chest could be like a basket with a lid, and spruce can be some kind of barrel?? Anyway, this would be the same way doors are.

I don't understand this... Placing two separate chests would still take up as much as one double chest...
Other than that, this isn't a bad idea. I'm kind of surprised this isn't already in the game, too. Support.
I love the idea of the birch chest looking like a basket and the spruce looking like a barrel, but I think it'd be a little bit more better/detailed like this.
Oakthe normal chest that we have had for years upon years.
Birch a woven basket, such as one used for laundry, food (such as a picnic box), or something similar.
Jungle the normal chest, but darker and covered in few vines in occasional positions.
Spruce a barrel with a lid that has a thin layer of frost on top, which creeps slightly down the side by one or two pixels.
Acacia something similar to an apple basket or a tea shipping container.
Dark Oak a medieval chest similar to the door, with metal hinges and an elderly aroma.

Yeah I'd like this, more variation is always good in my book.

Got an unpopular opinion? Want to share it? You can post it right here! Just don't start flame wars and be nice!

Ever see a bad forum post online? That's probably me.
Support. The Quark mod demonstrates your idea quite well (it has chests of the wood types too)
Full support.

For compact storage (double chest next to double chest next to...) and for automatic sorting machines (with hoppers and comparators and such)
But not all spruce forests are snowy.
And not too keen on the acacia chest type.
But I have Full Support on everything else.
Love the idea, the thought of a dark wood chest with a gold lock bitty puts a smile on my face.
