NOW ADDING FRIENDS! If you're a Youtuber, prepare to get millions of requests!
That's my issue. Very big players would get dozens of requests, so it would be a pain. Not to mention you could, you know, just use Skype or something.
No support.

If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.

First of all, YouTubers always get Realm invitations, so it's already a pain so it doesn't matter.
Secondly, there could be an option to disable friend requests.

Well for example, having a "friends" thing on MC would let people know when you are on MC, and it doesn't have to be people you know. My Skype, is just that. The one place where the people I socialize with are. Not some random person I may have met and played a game with. Also, my skype is on relatively all the time. I may not want to play MC, and thus don't want people bugging the hell out of me on my personal IMing. Also, if I was to quit playing MC, I don't have to worry about removing people from my skype, or just ignoring them for the next 10 years. Problem is already solved by not logging into MC.
Sure, skype works for the one person on there that plays MC, but he is my everyday all the time friend in RL. This doesn't need to be like my MSN messenger from back in the day where I had 500 random people on it, with me talking to 5 or so everyday.
As for YouTubers, of course there should be a block incoming friend requests. However, it will give Youtubers yet another function with having it. Say they run a contest, or a commenter on a video has a solution to show them a fix or something. They can add them, and pull them directly to their server.
Having a friends list opens the gates to many other things. It is a valid suggestion.
Edit*
I do not know why people are always on the "It doesn't benefit me" kick. Sure, the first question everyone is going to ask themselves is, is this going to benefit me? But ultimately you need to ask, will this benefit the community. The answer to this one is yes. It may have problems, but come up with solutions to fix said current issues.
For instance with the issues brought up...
Disable/enable friends feature.
Disable/enable incoming friend requests.
Remember realms? MC does support social interactions.
Next?

Skype is a thing that lets you do exactly this. We have ways to do it without too much issue, so I still don't see a reason.
I don't support this idea, but Skype does none of this...
1. You can't add a MINECRAFT friend in Skype. Adding contacts in one program doesn't transfer to another.
2. Can't search for a MINECRAFT server that someone is on.
3. Can't go to someones MINECRAFT realm.
4. Once again friends in a GAME is different from an average quality video call. (/teamspeak/discord/)
5. You can message in Skype, but as I've said before... not INGAME.
Anyways, even with all that, i don't support this idea, social messaging and stalking friends is isn't what i think we should do.
Edit : also there's no reason to quote someone's post just to copy and paste what you said earlier. They can read, and don't need a crawler to repeat themselves over and over.
Honestly, Discord is a much better alternative than Skype as it is built specifically for gaming and can still be used exactly like Skype.
OT: The idea of friends lists in Minecraft are usually a terrible idea as YouTubers will get hundreds of invites and even making this toggle-able does not make this any better of an idea.
This Would be a great Suggestion Heres the features
-You Can Request friends by typing the name
-You Can Find the server they are on The ip should show
-You Can Go to what realm He/she goes to by requesting owner of realm
-You can Accept or Ignore
-You Can Msg through Message button
Thanks for reading

Minecraft is a sandbox game, not a social app. I don't support this idea.

If i am helpful, why not give me a thanks? THANKS! <--- Get it?
While I acknowledge the fact you do not support the suggestion, I appreciate you giving examples as to why it is not the same. Thank you.
You definitly didn't come up with this, as the Pocket and Windows 10 Editions of this game already have this...
Don't waste your time reading this signature. if you just did, I owe you a cookie!
Most people aren't allowed to use Skype. It's also too complicated for me.
I still SUPPORT
