Alright, unless you have been living under one of those mossy cobble rocks in Mega Taigas, you should know about Vindicators, (Think hostile Villagers with axes) they are pretty much normal melee mobs that can make completely new players jump when they run at them with their axes, though I feel they should get a new, sinister ability.
You know that one movie with the bug things that mimic people? Well how about a mob which does exactly what I described 16 words ago?
Basically, every stormy night, there is a 5% chance that A Vindicator will spawn in the Village, every night the Vindicator will uncloak and kill 1 lone Villager (chosen randomly), this will continue every night until the Vindicator is found and killed, though killing him in cloaked form will be difficult since you have no way of knowing he's real or fake.
stuff.
If you find him in the act of travelling into a Villager's house to kill him, he will uncloak and attack.
The Vindicator will take the form of the Villager he last killed.
Alright, I, for one, think this idea is awesome (albeit far too rare,) but most people wouldn't agree with villagers getting murdered no matter how rare the chance is. I also think this is too complex. The whole luring and loading chunks and bringing them down 80 blocks and stuff is probably easy to code, but I don't think it really fits. I think it should just spawn there and turn into a villager when it kills one, and it has a chance of attacking you when it reveals itself. I think the assassination aspect is fine, though. (Although most people probably won't agree with me.)

Well, you can stay up at night and the killer will reveal itself, or you can explore and conquer the mansion. (Notice how I said Unexplored)
I like this in theory, not in implementation. First things first, the AI for this is just not going to happen. Make so it checks for a Village, then make one Vindicator go to the village, lure a Villager out, find a cave (which may not even exist near the location), make them go into it and go 80 blocks down (unlikely since most Villages are at about height level 70). Then make the Villager able to survive all the pitfalls, Zombies, and lava (which is probably less likely than the initial chance of a mansion that close to a Village), then have the Vindicator kill the Villager, take his form, and go to the Village (unlikely as they probably fell a 2 block drop at some point, making it impossible to go back up), plus it also gets attacked by Zombies in Villager mode.
Then it goes on a nightly murder stroll, which is the easiest part of the AI, but the worst part because it is murdering Villagers that are hard to get back. And all this happens in chunks that have never been generated, which is extra not possible because in those locations nothing exists yet, unless you want it to check for the structures in EVERY part of the seed and have it generate those chunks and start this process, which means even if you could survive the lag of all those potential chunk updates and AI loops (yes, astronomical odds of seeing one, but it will happen enough in a nearly infinite world), by the time you get to any of these all the Villagers would likely be dead already.
So instead, why not just make a chance for a Villager that generates to actually be a Vindicator in disguise, that will attack the player at night, and make them rare spawns in the Village if a player has it loaded but isn't near it? Sure it isn't as flashy, but it benefits from being actually feasible to implement, and much more likely that a player will ever see it.

I like this in theory, not in implementation. First things first, a Village within 75 blocks of a mansion is astronomical odds. Like, better chance of winning the lottery than seeing this happen.

I think you forgot that it is not blocks, but chunks, but you are right about this being hard to code.

That makes no sense, how would the Vindicator get to the village?

You're right, I misread the generation criteria. Corrected my post. But while it makes it more likely to occur it makes it way harder to implement. It means more detection for unloaded chunks, more Vindicators loading chunks, more processing, more lag, more empty Villages.
As for the fact that they just show up in Villages: who, besides you of course because you brought it up, cares? As I said, make so it happens on initial generation or if the Village is loaded but far from the player (for low render distance, give a chance for one to generate when reloading the Village). How does an Iron Golem just appear in a big Village? How does a Stronghold have a portal to another dimension? How are undead reanimated and walking around?
Actually for all of those things, they actually make less sense than a Vindicator just showing up one day. I already proposed that it only appears when you aren't around. So here is your explanation: it snuck in when you weren't around.
But for now, no support. A cool idea made unappealing by an overly complex, performance crippling implementation that 99% of people playing wouldn't even realize is different from the simple alternative offered.

I said astronomical, not impossible lol. But before I had misread it and thought it said blocks, I will actually just remove that bit as 75 chunks is certainly possible. I still think the implementation is unnecessarily hard to do for no benefit.
Unrelated: any chance you can PM the seed and coordinates?

This is a pretty cool idea, but my idea for a cloaking vindicator is like this:
In a village there is a small chance that a new villager will spawn in a village, without killing any other villagers. When you try to trade with him he will reveal himself and attack you. Obviously if you don't kill him cause you died or run away he'd be able to attack the other villagers.
This section is all about prepackaged criticisms and my general response to them. "Don't use them". Consider: If you can pick up a criticism and use it toward a can of tomato soup; it's probably not stable enough to use as a criticism of another member's work. Prepackaged (also called ad lib or copypasta cop-outs by me) criticisms are:⦁ This would cause lag.⦁ This isn't very popular.⦁ This would be too hard to code.⦁ Vague⦁ Not enough detail⦁ Too much detail⦁ You can do this in command blocks⦁ I don't think it would fit
These criticisms by themselves are horrible. If you want them to go from a useless waste of time to an actual criticism, you can start by validating your points with SUPPORTING DETAILS. Ahhh, it rears its ugly head again!
Let me be frank, unless you bother to add supporting details to your opinion; you DO NOT HAVE ONE.
