Kunais are a new item. They are considerable weaker than most weapons, but are effective towards higher tiered players and also have an utility use.
These weapons are not crafted, but rather found in loot chests, and can very rarely be fished out. When fished, they will be a bit damaged, having some durability lost, and when found in chests, they will not be damaged at all.
Kunais have 213 durability. They can be repaired by combining two of them, or with iron ingots in an anvil. They deal 2 hearts of damage. Their cooldown lasts as long as a sword (0.6 seconds)
Kunais are unique in the fact some of their damage pierce defense. This means that despite their low damage output, they will always deal some damage. It's safe to say they will always deal at least one heart of damage, even to a player in full diamond armor. This makes up for their minimal damage.
While having piercing damage may seem too powerful, you have to consider that you still are dealing minimal damage, and your opponent more than likely is still able to deal bigger bursts of damage to you with their swords or axes. Kunais are essentially an "Underdog" weapon. It shouldn't be used all the time, but for when you're main weapons just can't get past your opponent's defense. They give players a chance to escape situations that they otherwise would be helpless in.
This doesn't mean you can just find one of these and instantly win the game and beat up everything in diamond armor. It'll still be quite difficult to do, it just now makes sure you can actually fight back instead of relying on the devil's luck.
Kunais also have a utility use. They are connected to a rope, which can be used as a sort of "Grapple". They can be thrown a short distance, about 15 blocks away and will attach to the block they hit. You can then climb on that wall, sort of like a spider. You won't be pulled towards the weapon, it's more like the safety rope when you go rock climbing. Whenever a kunai is thrown, it will take a point of damage. Thrown kunais will also deal damage if a target is hit, but it will not apply knockback nor pull them in.
The item can receive most of the enchantments a sword has, but it cannot receive Fire aspect or Knockback. Any damage added from enchantments (Sharpness, Smite, Etc.) or potions will not pierce armor.
There's not really much else to it, honestly. Basically what I am suggesting is an utility weapon that can be used as a last resort for when they're in a horrible situation. This gives you a chance to fight back opponents that otherwise would be practically invincible, making the game a bit more balanced towards both end-game players and those just starting out. It also adds a little bit more of a variety in weapon choice and aids in transportation a bit.

Oh, sorry for not specifying lol. I just feel like its a little bit OP, not over the top like some other suggestions. Maybe reducing the throwing range and making it not do as much damage. As soon as you mentioned the throwing thing I just saw it as a fishing rod that does damage which I could see being abused somehow. I also like the idea as it is unique and I feel like we need a new weapon in Minecraft.

It does not knock players back or reel them in like fishing rods. It simply deals damage if thrown. Minimal damage at that. The throwing is more of an utility than an intended attack method.
I honestly am not sure how I can make it deal any less damage without making it underpowered as it already deals minimal damage.

Ridiculously overpowered. I see that you tried to make it not so, but it is.. It does 2 hearts of damage, which is 4 damage. Multiply that by the 3.6 that you get after drinking a strength 2 potion.. 14.4 damage. That's 7 hearts of damage.. Two hits, and it can hit faster than a sword, then anyone is dead.. Because of the armour piercing.

The Kunai pierces. Strength doesn't.
Here's some numbers.
Kunais without strength to a player wearing iron or higher: 1 heart of damage.
Kunais + Strength II to iron and diamoned armored players: 3-ish hearts of damage.
Tested in-game.
It would be 0 and 2 damage without the piercing. But that would only be because of strength. The kunai would literally deal 0 damage without its piercing.
Yes, this still deals a hefty amount of damage to unarmored players if it has strength II, but what weapon doesn't? Stone swords deal just around that much damage, Iron leaves unarmored players at 4 hearts, diamond leaving them at even less . The faster attack speed may be a bit of an issue, so I'll remove that bit, but what you're saying is exaggerating the power of these weapons immensely.
One more tidbit. Only some of the kunai's damage pierces. Think of it like having 1 heart of magic damage and 1 of normal. Magic damage (Ex: Instant damage pots) always pierce, so kunais will always deal at least one heart of damage. The extra one damage is usually nullified by chain armor or higher (Possibly even leather)

Here's a thing to consider.. The practicality. They can't really code it nice and neat for it to be armour-piercing with just that much damage, but not with any more.. But then again, Mojang doesn't care.. They've botched many difficult mechanics before, to get the intended result where people can see, but really ruin performance. Mounts are one thing they've done like that.. Sorry, I got off-topic. Re-cap: It can't be made that nicely to do what you want it to do, but it can be made more nicely than some other game mechanics have been.

They did this with guardians. Guardians deal 1/2 a heart of magic damage in addition to their normal damage, meaning they will always deal 1/2 a heart, regardless of your defense. They just deal more if you have less armor. That's basically what this is.
What I'm suggesting is basically the same mechanics, but with 1 heart of damage. Strength adds onto that damage, yes, but not from piercing and just from being able to do enough damage to leave a slightly bigger dent.
There's only ONE major problem I see with this weapon, and that is it doesn't really belong with the vanilla itemset. If you look at the vanilla itemset, you will notice the tools and armor are of medival origin. kunais, however, are more advanced weaponry. For this reason NO SUPPORT

Wouldn't say swords are exactly medieval. Just old and basic. Armor, swords and bows are not something that suddenly appeared during those times. They go much further back, and even were quite common past those times. Kunais aren't as old as swords and whatnot, but neither are beacons, redstone of any kind, even hoppers were relatively new.
Minecraft doesn't have a set theme. Many of its items are taken from all different timelines, so I think it's a bit unfair to say it doesn't fit because it isn't exactly medieval. Kunais are in no way advanced. They are extremely basic, arguably more basic in swords considering they generally consist of one material as opposed to swords, which consist of two. Their design and shape is similar to the end of a spear, which is much more older than medieval times.

Kunai date back to 400+ years ago, as a tool for simple farmers. Seems odd to call them advance in any way, considering they were basically a crude shovel until someone said "hey I could probably stab people with this."
That said the idea is okay. I just don't really see how it provides much of an advantage over just using a decent sword, considering how much easier a sword would be to come by.

Honestly, I would like a weapon like this, even though it is based around medieval times, I do think that the cooldown should be slower, though. Maybe in between a sword and an axe so it can't be spammed at all? Or maybe put a charge on it like a bow. Anyways Partial Support.

The idea is generally to give you a chance to survive if you aren't prepared properly. Higher tier swords will still probably outclass this weapon, but the intention of these is to give players a chance at all levels of mobs and players, even if early in the game. I know progression in Minecraft is kind of quick to do, so that's partially where the "grapple" part comes in. I know these might be outclassed early on, so an utility use to aid in mobility, I think would also keep them useful until very late into the game.

Read my other post. Minecraft doesn't have a set theme, so it's a little unfair to say it is. The cooldown is as long as a sword. I don't remember saying it was longer. I guess I did forget to add information about it, so I'll add that in.

I don't know what to think of this suggestion. I like it and I don't like it. I will just upvote it anyway

Never thought of strength with it. After reading that, I just don't think this weapon will work.

Well.. that's the first, anyhow, I like the concept and the idea, I wouldn't mind if this was added, so, Support!
I'm just a very boring person.
I read over it and it seems balanced. A small amount of damage, but still capable of killing everything. I really like this idea.
Support! If I can actually manage to type "Support," that is.

If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
Sure. I don't really see any criticism that I could add that hasn't been brought up already.

You're either swinging it like a sword, or throwing it like a rock. How is that advanced?
