This thread is a suggestion post for a potential set of changes for the theoretical 1.11 update. The update would focus around changing the landscape generation, and making said landscape more realistic. This would include some of the following below.
-Rivers now flow from mountains and other uplands.
-Rivers are now split into 3 categories: Rivers, Streams, and Arroyos (Dry creeks)
-Rivers are now split into these categories by their length, and by the biomes they flow through. (500 block long waterway flowing through desert = Dry, 2-3 blocks wide ::: 250 block long waterway flowing through jungle = 10-15 blocks wide)
-The land on "Continents" Now slopes up towards 1-3 mountain ranges.
-Rivers either empty into a bay or delta. (If the river flows through sandy biomes, the deltas will be very large and plains-like. If the river flows through grass-dominant biomes, the delta will be average, but still protruding into the ocean. If the river flows through mountains for a long while, there will be a bay at their end.
-Rivers now drop from mountains (Starts at Y=127, ends at Y=62)
-Ice rivers no longer exist if the river is "Warm" (flows through warm biomes)
-Mountain ranges usually stretch up to Y=200.
-Boats can now float up in water
-Fish mobs are added: Clownfish, Pufferfish, and Salmon.
-Removed Herobrine
-Rivers flow into other rivers.
-The flow of a river will transfer into the next river.
(10 3-block FLOWING rivers will make a 30-block wide river, but 10 3-block DRY arroyos will still make an arroyo)
-Rivers will always flow into an ocean or major lake.
-All land will slope towards water bodies.
-Being near a large river will increase crop growing speed
-Mountainous Biomes are much larger now.
-Rain can rarely cause floods. Water level will rise 4-6 blocks above the level of the nearest rivers.
-Rain is now regional (Grouped by biome)
-Colder, Oceanside biomes now have jagged coastlines with fjords.
-Warmer biomes will have smoother coastlines
-Ocean Islands are rarer. Islands in slow-flowing rivers are common.
Boy, there sure is a lot of "The ______ Update" threads going around...
We already got a "The Update the Changed the World" for biomes, so this is just redundant. I must say, this idea of yours has quiiiiite a lot of focus on rivers... The flooding part isn't needed and would just cause annoyances. I support some of these but not as it's own update.

There shouldn't be flooding, though. Because weather isn't supposed to change blocks, and boats shouldn't float, because it's realistic that they should sink when already underwater.

Also, I really and truly believe that this suggestion and my floating islands suggestion would go together incredibly nicely. They both follow along the theme of massive landscape changes, and the two ideas are fully compatible with one another. I've already even thought of a few ways that the ideas would prove each other!
Honestly, all I really want is new Blocks, Ores, woods/trees, food, and maybe make the terrain made out of multiple blocks. Not just dirt. Maybe different kinds of dirt. Idc
The Landscape Update No way! It is about time for the landscape to change!
This thread is a suggestion post for a potential set of changes for the theoretical 1.11 update. The update would focus around changing the landscape generation, and making said landscape more realistic. This would include some of the following below. I don't necessarily like it when things are more realistic, depending on what they do.
-Rivers now flow from mountains and other uplands. Finally. Now rivers won't be lakes.
-Rivers are now split into 3 categories: Rivers, Streams, and Arroyos (Dry creeks) Interesting...
-Rivers are now split into these categories by their length, and by the biomes they flow through. (500 block long waterway flowing through desert = Dry, 2-3 blocks wide ::: 250 block long waterway flowing through jungle = 10-15 blocks wide) Interesting too but way too confusing.
-The land on "Continents" Now slopes up towards 1-3 mountain ranges. I don't get it.
My question is do rivers go through oceans? Because if they do then I have a lot of farming to do...
-Rivers now drop from mountains (Starts at Y=127, ends at Y=62) Ok...
-Ice rivers no longer exist if the river is "Warm" (flows through warm biomes) That makes sense...
-Mountain ranges usually stretch up to Y=200. Instant support for that.
-Boats can now float up in water Interesting...
-Fish mobs are added: Clownfish, Pufferfish, and Salmon. I think it would be good, but it may lag my computer.
-Removed Herobrine That must be a joke. Herobrine was never put into the game.
-Rivers flow into other rivers. Ok...
-The flow of a river will transfer into the next river. Makes sense.
(10 3-block FLOWING rivers will make a 30-block wide river, but 10 3-block DRY arroyos will still make an arroyo)
-Rivers will always flow into an ocean or major lake. Yup. That makes perfect sense.
-All land will slope towards water bodies. I thought they already did.
-Being near a large river will increase crop growing speed That's good. I farm on rivers only!
-Mountainous Biomes are much larger now. I like mountainous biomes. I don't see a problem in that.
-Rain can rarely cause floods. Water level will rise 4-6 blocks above the level of the nearest rivers. Dang it I was going to suggest that.
-Rain is now regional (Grouped by biome) Good. I hate all world rain.
-Colder, Oceanside biomes now have jagged coastlines with fjords. That could be a mess...
-Warmer biomes will have smoother coastlines Sure, why not?
-Ocean Islands are rarer. Islands in slow-flowing rivers are common. But why?
-Oxbow lakes form on the banks of large rivers. What lakes?
-Valleys are much more common. Ok...
Can't see anything really wrong with this suggestion

It's high time the terrain generator itself got an overhaul, this would be a great step in that direction.

Amen to that, and we need to get rid of the 1.7 stuff too. Make biome temperature mapping a world gen OPTION, triple cave size and density, and make biome size an option.

But 1.11 shouldn't be named Landscape Update, rather have those features AND some things else, like other stuff. If only this would be the 1.11 update, it wouldn't add much and get hated.

I like the remove herobrine feature
ok but the Rivers that dry up should be removed, (Its an opinion dont hate plz)
I have edited this to some of yalls liking. Thanks for the feedback!

I think they should add cowboy towns in the mesa biome, They should trade things for gold and be neutral.
They shoud also add observers and block distroyers that destroy a block at a redstone signal and it can be piped through a hopper.

I love your idea about the rivers, I thought I was the only one who was dissapointed with minecraft's static long lakes.
Yes…..It's high tide that oceans, lakes, and rivers got some sort of overhaul. Oh, and double yes for regional rain. Needless to say, full support.

If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
