It is unique, there isnt a mob that you can ride andthat fights also
Yeah, that's called "balance".

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.
I just agree with you that they should be tamable, but not the same way as you suggest.
Once tamed, you could set their territory and they would stay there and protect your land from hostile mobs. They would have the same use as iron golems but wouldn't require villagers.
This idea of territory would be something new in minecraft but could be interesting. Polar bears would simply chill around your house and make sure nothing hostile comes in. You could even have to feed them regularly to keep them as a "friend". It could be a kind of mutual agreement between you and the bear; you feed it and it stays where you want it to stay. If you don't feed them, they would simply go away and would no longer attack hostile mobs, so even if you block the exits they would still be useless when not fed. I know it is a little blurry but I'm not here to do Mojang's job, just to give a global suggestion for people who are actually paid to do that to think about.
However I strongly disagree on the idea of riding them and giving them armor, there is no need for that.
SUPER AWESOME IDEA!!! It is a great idea to make polar bears tameable. I like the fishing idea and I think they should help find treasure when fishing also. The jewel armor is kinda expensive tho and I think all polar bears should be tameable and breedable although they should add trout to breed and tame polar bears and actually at minecon 2016 they showed llamas that attack enemies and can be riden I'm not sure If they attack hostile mobs or just wolves. On a hole new thought what if you tame polar bears just so they fish for you. You can have a pond by your house for your polar bears to fish at. right clicking would toggle between sit and follow and shift right clicking would toggle between fishing mode and normal. fishing mode could only be activated if they are near water and if it is they will have and animation of having a fishing hat on and a fishing rod in hand or something...
I think this all would be a great idea except the female and male idea I think what should happen to keep the population from overpowering and lagging the server would be to add a enemy for this mob that would kill it like wolf's kill sheep. But I do fully support this idea
I uhrm... I kinda liked this idea until I got to the third paragraph about riding and going into battle with the grown tamed bear, which is when Minecraft suddenly turned into Rayman or something.
Sure, tamable bears, but imo, once a cub is tamed it should remain a cub, and like any other pet in MC. Maybe throw in another benefit, like creepers being afraid of cats. tbh i don't know what that benefit would be, but I'm sure there's something that would make a tame bear come in little handy, besides just looking cute. But nahhhh, riding a full grown bear and having it attack hostiles is...uhrm... a whole different game. Way too much going on there.
I think it might work better in a mod. I'd like to see a mod that introduced races into minecraft and then those races could interact with animals differently... maybe you have dwarves... they are slower but mine faster than a normal Steve. They are too heavy for a horse but can ride a donkey or mule or polar bear. The polar bears are cranky and they get in fights if there are other adult polar bears around who aren't restrained. Slower than a horse, but tougher than a dog, but not tougher than a pack of dogs... that sort of thing.
What I'd really like, for our zoo, is a collar that you can put on a baby animal so it doesn't grow up. Unless you are constantly breeding the short maturation cycle of animals on minecraft almost guarantees you'll be swarmed with adult animals.
