Hmmmmmmmm what is that sound? A villager right? My suggestion is to add rogue villager villages that have barbarians in them called vikings. About 1 in 10 villages would be a viking village. The villagers attack players who enter. There are rusty iron golems instead of normal iron golems that are weaker, have less health, do less damage, and move slower. The villagers have similar damage to zombies but move faster. And some have bows. Please like and favorite for more suggestions.
If the viking "Villages" were only added to ice plains (Vikings are stereotypically in cold areas, right? Plus it could add some variation to ice plains along with the 1.9 Igloos) and contained more treasure then regular villages to make fighting worthwhile, I could support this.
Also, why would they have iron golems? Regular villagers have them because they are incapable of defending themselves, but if the viking villagers can use bows and melee, they don't really need guards. (And even if they do have them, why would they be rusty? Wouldn't they be maintained just as much as in regular villages?)
Minimal support.

This is getting to somewhere interesting, but it's still vauge. Are the Viking Villages the same as normal Villages, or do they look different? Also, the Golems are needless when the Vikings are already armed. Are the new Rust Golems an entirely different mob, or are they an Iron Golem variant, like a Zombie Villager to a normal Zombie (because I'm leaning towards the later). Nonetheless, this idea is still vauge, but it has potential. No Support for now.
An interesting idea, but I'm 50/50 on it. I'm also convinced this is one of those suggestions given your thread history. But still, not a terrible idea here.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.
I think the way to go about "hostile villagers" are bandits with bandit forts, similar to Skyrim.
That's what I was going for, the difference is that bandits are like thugs and thieves (nomadic, pillaging) whereas barbarians/vikings have their own sophisticated settlements like the normal villagers.
When I say normal, I mean normal all the way. No special skins, just regular villagers, and why would they be hostile ? That means changing what NPC villages ar all about.
I'm all for NPC villages apparing in more places. But NOT to change the very concept of NPC villages, no matter which biome it is.
That kind of stuff has no place in vanilla and is strictly for mods, like for example the Millenarie mod. NPC villagers are peaceful, end of story.
Otherwise, next thing you know then desert NPC villages' villagers will stop being peopled by our funny squidward guys and start having hostile mujahideen desert warrior assassins instead, or whatever. Hey, making them hostile is good for icy plains, so it's good elsewhere too ! Then for plains villages we'lll use some other type of bandits !
Just no. Villages are a helpeful and sociable thing, for trading, and only monsters should be enemies. Adding hostile villages would change that.
I think this is a great idea! They could wear leather and chain armor. Some could wear wolf fur armor à la berserker (Unobtainable to the player.) that would protect them as iron. Their arsenal would consist of swords, axes, bows and buckler shields (A bit less defense the tower shield we have.)
Judging by your thread history, its one of those ones, Cerroz. The vagueness... AUGH!!!!
No Support without detail.

So you're opposing the suggestion just because it doesn't meet your standards? Think of the concept of vikings in MC yourself, and not how shoddy the OP made his post.

Only a sith deals in absolutes.
What's the problem with breaking the status quo? Is there some written rule that says NPC villages must be peaceful? I think experimenting a little bit is healthy for the future of the game, and some hostile villagers could spice up the game. We don't need more of the same.

If a suggestion isn't detailed, how are we supposed to critique it?
OT: I don't dislike the concept, but we do need more detail. What are the golem's stats? How often do the "Vikings" spawn with bows? Since their Vikings, shouldn't they (stereotype alert) spawn in colder areas?
Minimal Support, until more detail is added.

I like the idea of vikings.... Perhaps they could live in Ice plains? Have their own structures? Perhaps have Viking variants with only some being hostile?

I like the idea but it needs more detail
This is an excellent idea! It gives minecraft a little more of a 'Scandinavian' feel. +1!

Not worth the trade-offs, I don't think
Nah, just have normal NPC villages (for Icy Plains biomes, not all cold biomes) except the building use Spruce instead of Oak.
More along the lines of what I was thinking
This is basically what I was saying, why are you against them being hostile?

Although I like the idea, it's a bit too vague.
