One again, the OP should be able to learn how to make a proper suggestion WITHOUT all of the harassment and humiliation. And that suggestion guide is LOADED with lots of insults.
Are we talking about the new 2.0 guide? If so, then no it isn't. It's a "tough love" guide, but it has less insults than the previous one. If a guide offends you, then the problem is on the reader's end, not the guide's.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.

The 2.0 guide has a slightly less aggressive tone. Honestly, I consider/considered the guide to be a necessary evil. It's a bit harshly worded, but it's a no BS guide. It works, and it could work better I suppose, but I'm not re-writing that thing from scratch.

I'm glad to be the one to inform you, we officially redid the guide! Badprenup took notice of, well basically exactly what you're saying. The guide simply discouraged certain actions, rather than suggesting new ones. The new guide is also set in a much better tone, as it was a collaboration and that was one of the main things that we tried to change. I can proudly say I worked on it myself (as Badprenup stated; he doesn't expect people to read the guide before their first suggestion, even though he wishes they would, but hopes the guide can be used as something for people to point other people to, to show them some solutions to problems they were having) I personally hated the excuses section, because people basically used the fact that the author used some vague excuse as a reason for hating on suggestions. It is not a much lesser section (while it still exists), and I believe that the excuses are more realistic now. Check it out! Say any problems you see! The group is still set up, it is still open to be changed. If you feel very strongly about it, you could even be added to the group yourself. I hope this was helpful and informative
(it's not spam, mobile doesn't do multiquote (fix that plz)!)
So, I actually made a huge change because of the stuff that I pointed out? Or were there people that were complaining about all of the humiliation and insults in the old guide?

1. The guide was re-written.
2. The complaints about the guide did cause it to be re-written, but it's still pretty aggressive. Honestly, the original guide was fine, but that's a subject for another day.

Ehhhhhh, well... actually, just no. No, no it is not.

Nah, the old one was unstickied (although technically it still exists, as lots of people hated the idea of deleting it).
And yeah, together everyone's feedback caused a large change. Mods took notice, and the necessary action was taken. A good reason to speak your mind, isn' it?

It really wasn't. The guide was downright offensive. And if you think the current guide is still aggressive, please point out how it is. We tried very hard to change the aggressive tone, to one more matter-of-fact. Sounds similar, but minus the offensiveness. And just because you could bear the guide doesn't mean it was fine. Fine for you, maybe, but it's intended for the entire section, and therefore must be catered for the entire section. (Also, it quite simply had language that broke forum rules. That's not up for discussion, it was a fact, and it needed to be fixed). (BTW if you wish to debate (not argue, despite how rude I sound I just really like debates) this further, I invite you to do so on the new guide, but not here as it is sorta off-topic )
Current vanilla growth speed = 100% which is ridiculously fast
Summer growth speed would be 50% of current vanilla in other words still very fast
Spring would be 25% of current vanilla in other words still be quite good.
Autumn would be 12.5% of current vanilla, in other it would be ok.
Winter would be 6.25% of current vanilla, in other words a little bit too slow It's either make reserves or a big farm, or just get other source as of food.
I agree that each season should have different speeds, but 6.25%? That really would be almost the same as no growth at all. And wouldn't spring have the fastest growth? It's not my suggestion, so I'll leave that research to the author though (so I may very well be wrong)

You know that you're not supposed to plant crops then just sit there waiting for them to grow, right ?
Try planting crops then going do something else that isn't a negligible activity. Say, go mining and return home only when you got a full load of ore. Or build a cute cottage complete with interior and exterior decoration (not just an empty dirt shack in the middle of nothing !). Usually, that kind of playing will take half an hour or more.
In a game, there is supposed to be some sort of minimal amount of balance between amount of food player needs vs time & effort "overhead" to get it, with the player should be having some net gain and not spend either negligible amount of work or too much work to get the important resource.
From the wiki:
- All three crops (wheat, carrots, potatoes) have a total of 8 growth stages.
- Growth happens at random intervals and is affected by growing conditions. The average duration of each stage ranges from 5 minutes (in ideal conditions) to 35 minutes (in worst-case conditions).
Ideal conditions is planting crops in long lines in full sunlight with either lots of torches for so night growth or just use beds to skip the night. I am assuming nobody is stupid/ignorant enough to want a slower growth farm setup.
So, full growth in about 40 minutes which is only 2 minutes days-night cycles.
Unless your farm is ridiculously tiny, you then spend a few minutes to farm and will get STACKS of food, which will last a VERY long time, especially if crafting Beef Stew instead of eating veggies raw.

Normally, full crops maturity is reached in about 40 minutes. If you have a ibg farm, several will be ready to harvest well before that.
That is 2 day night cycles. 6,25% is 32 day-night cycles.
Meaning: it would take the ENTIRE winter to mature one round of farming. Or 21 hours of playing. Yeah maybe that is a bit too extreme lol.
Considering that the player doesn't spend ANY energy when immobile doing nothing, we'd probably end up with players just letting Minecraft run overnight "AFK Mode". That would not be very good for multiplayer servers performance.
To be frank, if you think the guide or the comments are rude, WELCOME TO THE INTERNET. You have no idea... From what I see, its actually quite civilised here...
Honestly, I've been all around the Internet, engaging in political and religious debates (none of which I regret), and I can honestly say that I've received the most intolerable lectures from users on this website. Of course, I received them by doing stupid things, but I think there's a more effective way to deal with ignorance than incessant disparagement.
spring lasts for 20 days and 20 nights. Summer last for 25 days and 25 nights. Autumn has 18 days and 18 nights. winter lasts for 16 days and 16 nights
Don't support with these numbers. These add up to a 79-day year and this does not work well. Minecraft has 8-day months and makes heavy uses of multiples and powers of 2. The numbers are arbitrary and not explained.
It would be better if all the numbers were multiples of 8 (to fit the Minecraft months) and were the same. There's no need for seasons to have different lengths. The seasons could either be 16 days long each (2 Minecraft months) for a 64-day year, or 24 days long each for a 96-day year. I prefer the latter.
With 24-day seasons, each month could have subtle differences so each month has its own character. For example, the mid-winter month could have blizzards (storms with snow) but other winter months would have regular snow.
Day and night lengths need to be different. The day length could vary from 8 hours in midwinter to 16 hours in midsummer, on this scale: (Spring) 10, 12, 14, (summer) 15.5, 16, 15.5, (autumn) 14, 12, 10, (winter) 8.5, 8, 8.5. (hours = 4 sin θ + 12, rounded to nearest 0.5). To make the day length work better, the sun needs to be angled to the horizon. The sun is higher in summer and lower in winter. Whether the sun passes to the south or the north should be configurable.
If there are seasons, there needs to be a calendar that can be crafted. To craft a calendar, surround a watch on a crafting table with 8 pieces of paper.

The fact that you used the words "I think" leads me to believe that you just pulled that off of the top of your head, which is just... wow.
