I've been thinking about how hacking has been a problem in servers lately, especially in vanilla servers! So I came up with an official Mojang solution to cheating problems!
Here's how it works:
Every time you enter in a server, your client sends information to the Mojang servers and checks if everything is regular! If your client sends any irregular information, the Mojang Staff will checks the information and if they detect anything that seems like it gives players advantage, the person's Mojang account gets MAC banned!
How does the ban work:
When your mojang account gets MAC banned, you cannot enter any Minecraft server that is MAC protected! You will only get 1 MAC ban appeal, if you get banned again, you are staying banned!
But I want hacking on my server:
Okay, just disable MAC protection on your server properties!
I know many of you will say that I copied everything from Valve Anti Cheat but I really think the same system should be in Minecraft!
A system like this will not be able to make the distinction between hacks and mods, as both change Minecraft's program files, they're just used for different purposes. As such, a system like this would ban any player that tries to log on while he has mods installed. Not the best idea, if i say so myself...
A system like VAC simply doesn't work for a game that's as often modded as Minecraft. No support, sorry.
No Support reason above...
Also it would be a hassle and a waste of time for Mojang to work on something like that...
Yup, this would totally monkey up mods... best to just check that players aren't travelling in excess of sprinting speed (fly-sprinting speed if allowed to fly) and aren't falling slower than gravitational laws of Minecraft permit (flying) if not allowed to fly, because what if someone installs Optifine and gets banned for it? o.o

like many users of the minecraft forums i'm a member of the server total war (IP:167.114.100.168:438) the server includes a 1:1500 scale map of earth.
those of you wondering why i don't have an active RP (so far none). i try. but whenever i get to the rules section of it my computer restarts. computer: i realise what your telling me and i give up.
This would certainly be awesome, as I am so sick of hackers on my favorite server. But, as others have stated, this would not allow using mods. Minecraft is one of the most commonly modded games ever and this wouldn't work out just for that reason. This could work with games like Counter Strike or Call of Duty that don't have many mods (or don't have them at all). Even though I think it would be possible to make an advanced software that is able to make a distinction between mods and hacks, it would likely be as complicated as MInecraft itself, so I don't think it's worth it.

The sad thing is, it might come down to this. On servers like The Hive, Mineplex, and others, have been overflown with idiots (hackers). Currently i don't think it needs to go this far, but definitely SOMETHING needs to happen.

A system like this will not be able to make the distinctition between hacks and mods
Mojang staffs will check the client info sent, if they detect anything that gives players advantage (like xray, minimaps, hacked clients, etc,) they will add it to the black listed database and the players using that mod or client will get MAC banned, if mojang staffs detect anything that doesn't effect the gameplay (Optifine, shaders, etc.) they will add it to the whitelisted database and the account using those mod won't get MAC banned! And heres where the database goes into use, if the player starts using hacked clients or mods that gives them advantage in a server, the client info gets sent to those database and if player is using anything that is in the black listed database, they will automaticly get MAC banned!
With this in place, a hack could send "fake" client info that mimics a completely vanilla Minecraft client. Like with any anti-cheat, a workaround would be made. There is no way to prevent hacking.
Players can report people using hacks like that and they will be watched by MAC!
More then 20 milion people play Minecraft. And a lot of those, I dare say close to 50%, use mods in some shape or form.
Do you really think Mojang has the manpower to do that?
And if the system only alerts on specifics modifications a single time, what stops hackers from simply creating new hacks that avoid this checking process?
Dude, mojang can hire like a group of 20 to 30 people to check the database and the developers like jeb and dinnerbone can still develop the game reguarly.
20,537,476 own Minecraft. Lets say 1/5th people use mods. That's 4,107,496 people. Say of that 2/3rds of people use multiplayer (maybe more)
That totals up-to 2,738,331 reports per day.
How many people would be needed to motioner that? How much would that cost? Why would Mojang (and, by extention, Microsoft) pay it purely to do something that be can accomplished by server owners with anti-cheat plugin/s?
Also would the player have to wait for half an hour to connect to a server as a Mojang employee to search through their client report?
Or would the player be able to join the server hack for half an hour then be banned or just disconnect?
In conclusion, Its a nice thought but just not possible,

Hey. This will probably annoy you if you are trying to scroll down the page.
Okay, just disable MAC protection on your server properties!
By the same logic, many mods that are OK should be whitlisted by default. Then it wouldn't mess with mods! Good idea, though there is room for improvement.

Thats what the database is for, once they add the mods to the whitelisted and blacklisted database, they will never have to reveiw those specific mods again! They only check the database if they see something new!
The reason Valve has VAC is because those games don't use mods, if you use a mod on a VAC server that's what (I think) gets you banned, as the mod would generally make the game easier for you. But Minecraft has plenty of mods out there in the Internet Wilderness, so making a whitelist of allowed mods would be quite hard, considering how many there are.
I don't think a group of 20-30 people would cut it for possibly thousands of requests coming in every few minutes.
Maybe to make things easier for mojang, people will have to "PAY" to use the MAC protection! How much? Maybe 20 dollars a month!
This is like what SEGA used to use on phantasy star online, gameguard...and it never works properly and only causes issues for players. It's one of the most easily bypassed checks ever too, this would never work on anyone whose not a idiot.

this is just rubbish. and the amount of people who would become MAC banned would mean that huge servers like mineplex could only get 10 people on it.
not very good for server owners (who would get hardly any donations) and then servers would colllapse.
also it could delay updates if mojang keep on going to ban people from tons of servers

Yeah but what happens if we have mods like Optifine and Shaders!

No, they only check the client if the database detects anything new!
