I don't know what to say... whether it was meant to be or not, this idea is kind of bland. Maybe give a few more new additions/changes to it. At least then, collectively, it would have enough content to be a noteworthy change.

basically, it would be like glass panes, except it would be trapdoors. You can open them like normal, but instead of opening them and having them open up or down, they would open sideways so that you could open them like you do when opening a window.
I don't think this would be useful at all sine it is only 1 block tall and the character would not fit hrough unless you made it
2 blocks tall thus creating an iron door.

That isn't the point. The point is to make sort of a window that you can actually open and close. it would be used for aesthetics, or like a little arrow slit that you could shoot out of then close.
Wolfhusband pointed out something arguable, and I have to agree with him on this. The sideways trapdoor won't really offer much other than aesthetics. If you wanted to make a small hole to fire arrows from a dispenser or an area where players can fire arrows, you could simply place a Trapdoor below an exposed block and use that as a manageable window instead. If that's not enough, you could maybe even try a series of pistons. As put, what you're suggesting is already achievable.
wouldn't really take or add anything to the game, I don't see why people are getting so worked up when the code could be added in less than a day. it doesn't change much, just aesthetics. nice, small idea. support.
Aslot to fire arrows out of? You can do that in so many ways already. Wooden trapdoors, sticky pistons, simply just
placing an easily mined block and I'm certain there are tons more. The idea isn't really needed since it offers purely
athstetic usage along side something already achieveable. Iron trapdoors can also be inverted to achieve this.
My point stands.
In order to place a trapdoor, currently, it has to be connection to another block. So what you're saying is, my idea would work the same as it does now because they would do the same thing.
This is wrong. If you wanted your trapdoors to go up and act as a window, you would need a block behind them to act as a wall for the trapdoors to go up. And you know, that kind of defeats the purpose of having them in the first point.
The whole point is to place them like a window and have them be able to be open. It would be very useful for pvp servers and stuff like that. For example, instead of just using a dispenser to fire arrows, you could have a bigger radius in which you could fire arrows. Not only that, but you can see out of them.
Use a texture pack to change the look of the trap doors to be windows. Done.
That doesn't do anything. You still can't place them like you can glass panes. All it would do is make it so if you were to put a trapdoor over a hole, it would look like that. And you can already do that.
This is already implemented through fence gates, which can be remodeled as needed in resource packs. But the animation is different, so since I wouldn't use this myself, I am on the fence.
Ah yes, that would be better. The "animation" is just 2 different model files, one for each state of open and closed. This works perfectly for the window idea.

We all know how to can place trapdoors on sides of blocks. But what if you could make them be vertical like glass panes, and be able to be opened.
I know it's not much information, but I'll try and make a picture in a little bit.

Ehh, doesn't need that much information, but how about they just make it so that you can place one on walls?
Support I guess...

Could be rather nice, though this function could be annoying when placing trapdoors.

Hm. I suppose it would be useful in decorative purposes. I support.

Chill bub, it's just an idea.
I'm sorry if you viewed my statement as aggressive. It isn't intended that way. I was merely pointing out the reasons this
is unneeded. My criticissm isn't hateful, it's factual. I appologize that you were offended though.

No offense taken on my behalf, just making sure no one else is.

Support. This would look nice, and I feel Minecraft needs more asthetic blocks.
