(I have updated this from when I originally posted this suggestion so please update your comments if I fixed the stuff your complaining about. Also to all the people who say this is a bad idea because I found a way to turn each season bad only Summer and Winter have disadvantages (freezing and over heating) and Spring and Fall are fine. But if you turn temperature off none of them have any disadvantages.) I think Minecraft should have seasons and temperature. BTW this suggestion only uses items that already exist in Minecraft and doesn't have any new items. Here is an explanation of each:
Temperature:
If you get too hot you can over heat if you don't cool down very quickly by drinking water. Also if you get too cold you can freeze to death so you need to warm up very quickly to do this you can stand near a torch, fire, or lava. There will be a thermometer in a corner of your screen that turns red if your hot, blue if your cold, and green if your in the middle. Also if you start to freeze the outer part of your screen turns blue, there is a message in the chat saying "Player Name is freezing", and you slowly start loosing hearts. If you start to over heat the outer part of your screen turns red, there is a message in the chat saying "Player Name is over heating", and you slowly start loosing hearts.
Seasons:
There will be 4 seasons just like in real life so here is an explanation of all of them:
Summer: In summer it is really hot so you can over heat (as I mentioned above) so you need to protect yourself from the sun by wearing a hat (any helmet in Minecraft). If you wear a hat you can still over heat but not as quickly. The better the hat is the longer it takes for you to over heat. Also if you swim in water it is impossible for you to over heat.
Autumn: In Autumn it is usually pretty nice temperature not too hot or cold. Also leaves can "fall off the trees" and despawn.
Winter: In Winter it gets really cold and you can freeze (as I also mentioned above) so you need to stay warm by putting on clothes (any armor in Minecraft). The more protection the armor gives the more it keeps you warm although you can still freeze it just takes longer. Also if you are a house with lots of torches they will keep you warm and you can't freeze. It can also snow in any biome accept for deserts.
Spring: In spring there is also pretty nice weather. The leaves grow back on the trees and more flowers can grow (only on grass of course). Also it rains a lot and puddles can form on the ground.
Also when it changes seasons it will tell you in the chat so you aren't surprised when it snows or rains or the leaves fall off the trees. For people who don't want seasons or temperature you can turn each one off separately in the settings and temperature and seasons are automatically turned off in creative mode. Please comment suggestions on how to make this better.

How would you know if you were going to Burn or freeze to death, would there be an indicator on your screen?
Heat lamps seem a little too expensive
Some biomes already represent seasons.
There would be a thermometer in the corner of your screen that shows if your temperature is too high or low because if your temp is good it's green and if your too hot it turns red and if your too cold it turns blue. Also if you start to freeze the outer part of your screen turns blue, there is a message in the chat saying "You are starting to freeze" (or "Player Name is starting to freeze" on a server), and you slowly start loosing hearts. Also if you start to burn you catch on fire like you would if you touched fire or lava.
Also instead of going to find a snow biome you could just wait a couple of Minecraft days until it turns to Winter and it could snow right outside your house!

I like the full idea of the temperature. Just not... seasons, It seems better fit if all the seasonal based biomes were removed, but then that would make a big impact on the Minecraft community, and the game itself. Overall, this seems better fit for a mod...
I don't think you've said enough. What do you mean by "Micro management."?

Mainly depends on what feel you get from them.. I'm basically trying to say 'Minecraft shouldn't have seasons, because you can easily just visit a biome for snow, and other such things you may need, that can be found in a biome.'
I don't think you've said enough. What do you mean by "Micro management."?
Actually, he said quite enough because of how correct that statement is, which doesn't need further explanation to understand. Micromanagement is something we have to keep track of and headache over.
For example, adding a thirst bar along with the hunger bar adds micromanagement, because then we have to carry water bottles around and constantly worry about "oh crap, is my thirst high enough?! how many water bottles did I bring before I went in this cave?! is there a water source nearby just in case?! Worry worry worry!!!!!"
And that's basically what your suggestion is. These seasons troll us and can bring harm to us, so now we have to craft all this crap just to ward that off, instead of just walking around our worlds with no penatly (which is how seasons should be). So yeah, no support.

I think Minecraft should have seasons and temperature. Here is an explanation of each:
Temperature:
If you get too hot you can catch on fire and burn to death Okay, I may not know much about temperature, but I know that that is literally impossible to happen in natural, hot weather. if you don't cool down very quickly by drinking water (I need suggestions on how to make this better). Also if you get too cold you can freeze to death so you need to warm up very quickly. To do this you can stand near a Heat Lamp which can be crafted by putting buckets of lava around a Redstone Lamp and it also needs to be powered by a Redstone Torch.
Seasons:
There will be 4 seasons just like in real life so here is an explanation of each:
Summer: In summer it is really hot so you can over heat (as I mentioned above) so you need to protect yourself from the sun by wearing a hat (any helmet in Minecraft). If you wear a hat you can still over heat but not as quickly. The better the hat is the longer it takes for you to over heat. Also if you swim in water it is impossible for you to over heat and burn to death. What kind of logic is this?! I'm swimming in a lake on a hot summers day, and then I end up in flames in a LAKE. Please explain to me, why on earth you think you can magically burn in water?Read that wrong, my mistake.
Autumn: In Autumn it is usually pretty nice temperature not too hot or cold. But leaves on trees can despawn as if you cut down the trunk. Not sure about this. This would limit the number of saplings in the season.
Winter: In Winter it gets really cold and you can freeze (as I also mentioned above) so you need to stay warm by putting on clothes (any armor in Minecraft). The more protection the armor gives the more it keeps you warm. It can also snow in any biome accept for deserts.
Spring: In spring there is also has pretty nice weather. The leaves grow back on the trees and more flowers can grow (only on grass of course). Also it rains a lot and there is a possibility of floods because now when it rains puddles can form on the ground. What? Floods is the worst thing to have in Minecraft, especially floods. It can get laggy and can even destroy your builds. It's not fun, it's annoying.
Please comment suggestions on how to make this better.
Responses in bold. Overall, I'd like to first state that this adds micromanagement, which is something we don't really need more of. Hunger bars provide enough micromangament in Minecraft, and it's already a pain to watch over it a few times. What else I'd like to go over is the 'logic' you put in here. You cannot combust in natural weather, especially on hot days, that is literally impossible. Hot, summer days are usually 40-50 Celsius (100 Fahrenheit). For fire to start, it needs Oxygen and a burnable, fuel source (the human body is not a fuel source). Also, when starting a fire, the burnable fuel source needs a temperature of 148 Celsius (300 Fahrenheit). So this is no where near to hot summer days, especially the requirements needed. One other thing, explain to me how you can be set on fire in water on a hot day? Read this wrong, my mistake.
Another thing I'd like to go over is how you added a con to every season. Some of these cons are minor, but others are rather huge and annoying. Two of them I'd like to go over is Summer and Spring. You should know that just because its summer, doesn't mean it's a time where people can die of hyperthermia (or being set on fire for that matter....). Granted, there are some areas all across the world who have the hottest temperatures, but that doesn't mean all of them do. Usually a normal summer day is 30-40 Celsius (100 Fahrenheit), that's not temperature where someone can spontaneously die of heat. The other is Spring, where it would rain a lot and cause floods. Natural Disasters in Minecraft is a generally hated suggestion, mostly because of how they would effect the world and the player alike.
Also, leaves decaying/regrowing would cause terrible lag, making the game unplayable for many more people.
How bad?
Oh, right...
The reason they got removed was because they don't follow the leaf decay rules, and thus caused a LOT of chunk updates. I basically doubled my FPS in forests by removing these.
That's from Jeb himself, commenting on the removal of big oak trees from forests - which were just a small percentage of all trees (8% chance in 1.6.4 forests) - yet even on the high-end computers they use (better than the majority of players) they caused lag. Likely also why jungles were made rare (rather than doing the more sensible thing and actually fixing the trees, such as by adding extra logs, or even changing leaf blocks so they ignore block updates except when adjacent wood/leaves are broken by a player). Especially since the game would have to record the location and structure of every single tree in the game or make them entities or tile entities, no doubt causing even more lag and/or save size bloat.
Plus the reasons already stated; I thought they implemented the climate system so you wouldn't have snow next to hot biomes, much less within those biomes (any biome but desert (savanna, mesa), which never have rain anyway? So that means it snows in jungles?), and I don't even like that (mostly since variety over smaller areas is greatly reduced, it wouldn't have been so bad if the climate zones were smaller and uniformly distributed).
There are no "seasonal" biomes. Every biome has it's own climate, like real life. Antarctica isn't always Winter (Although it seems like it). Seasons have been contemplated for a very long time, and there was even a winter mode, which was removed because the snow didn't disappear and was annoying, but anyways, seasons would add tons to Minecraft and would be amazing! Especially for multiplayer so the areas around spawn aren't always barren wastelands. But temperature and hypothermia and all that would not add to the game, just make it more survivaly and less creativey. Yes I know those weren't words.
I think the temperature is too realistic for a game like Minecraft. Also, seasons should be optional, so those who want seasons can have seasons and those who don't want seasons don't have to play with seasons.

This suggestion being optional doesn't change anything. If the idea is something that puts players at pointless disadvantages, then most players will just leave the option off anyway.

So... there's one option for seasons and one option for the disadvantages? That seems pointless. Why not just have seasons implemented in the game normally (in other words, turned on permanently) while not having the disadvantages at all? If you have to make things optional, that means you got broken, unbalanced things in the suggestion. Things being optional is generally a cheap blanket to avoid negativity and it rarely saves a suggestion.
I really see a good reason why the overheating and freezing need to be there. I mean, I understand you're trying to create challenges for the player, but overall, this just hinders and slows gameplay. There's tons of things to do in Minecraft, and micromanaging if we're gonna fry or freeze is just a headache.
I can just see people trying to flank mobs or run from/dodge them and trying to maintain their body temperature or whatever. Not fun. Having debuffs in seasons can work, just don't have them directly affect the player's condition where they have to micromanage.

They would really only have to worry about their temperature in Summer or Winter which isn't that hard if you put armor on (because a helmet can protect you from the sun and other armor can keep you warm). Also it is even easier to keep your temperature in the "green" range if your not exposed to the outside conditions (inside your house, in a cave, etc.). So you would really only have to micromanagement to worry about if your are outside in Summer or Winter without armor... plus if you just remember to carry around a water bottle with you in the Summer and who doesn't have a couple of torches on them to warm up if you get too cold?

TheMasterCaver has a point. You are basically suggesting MORE MICROMANAGING. I already know this is bad. If you want to see for yourself just get Survivalcraft. The amount of micromanaging is ridiculous and makes it a hard game. (you have temperature, food, stuff like that)

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.

Dragons are the coolest animal ever and also my favorite!

TheMasterCaver has a point. You are basically suggesting MORE MICROMANAGING. I already know this is bad. If you want to see for yourself just get Survivalcraft. The amount of micromanaging is ridiculous and makes it a hard game. (you have temperature, food, stuff like that)
