In 1.7 and over we have had biome, and texture/ viewing changes.
In 1.7 the rose that has been here since the Classic versions of minecraft was recently replaced with the poppy. to me the poppy feels like it can be good... but the rose should be added back in..
Also
In the change from 1.6.4 to 1.7 extreme hill biomes had snow added to them above height 91.
And snow was taken away from taiga biomes.
Now snow and even jungle biomes are much rarer than before.
1. Roses are still in the game, but exist in a form that actually makes sense now:
2. Snow was taken away from the Taiga biomes because they weren't meant to have snow to begin with. Snow Taiga's still exist in thier own biome called "Cold Taiga", which you will generally find near other cold biomes.
3. Jungle biomes are not classified the same way as other biomes are therefore appear less.
2. Snow was taken away from the Taiga biomes because they weren't meant to have snow to begin with. Snow Taiga's still exist in thier own biome called "Cold Taiga", which you will generally find near other cold biomes.
That doesn't really make sense though, either the "weren't meant to have snow to begin with" (then why did they have snow?) or why didn't they simply rename the original taiga to cold taiga and add a new snow-free taiga instead. Then pre-1.7 worlds wouldn't get messed up; changing the name of a biome only affects the name in the debug screen.
For example, I did this myself in my own mod:
public static final BiomeGenBase taiga = (new BiomeGenTaiga(5, false)).setColor(747097).setBiomeName("Winter Taiga").func_76733_a(5159473).setEnableSnow().setTemperatureRainfall(0.05F, 0.8F).setMinMaxHeight(biomeMinHeight, biomeMaxHeight);
// Snow-free taiga biome; vanilla taiga renamed to Winter Taiga
public static final BiomeGenBase snowlessTaiga = (new BiomeGenTaiga(43, true)).setColor(747097).setBiomeName("Taiga").func_76733_a(5159473).setTemperatureRainfall(0.25F, 0.8F).setMinMaxHeight(biomeMinHeight, biomeMaxHeight);
Of course, considering that 1.7 came out nearly two years ago it is a bit late to change that; if they did that now taigas would become snowy and cold taigas become snow-free, so much if you built your house in either for the climate and/or appearance.

Taiga biomes originally did not have snow when they were first added in b1.8, snow was then added due to the lack of snow biomes and the severe rarity even after Notch did get around to adding them back (as Ice Plains). Old worlds did get messed up when this changed happened, old worlds also get messed up again when normal Taiga was changed back to snowless.
When I first saw the original red "rose" my immediate thought was "roses don't grow like that and it doesn't look much like a rose anyway. They should call it something else like, hmmm, a poppy". I'm very happy with that shift and the new rose is much better than the old rose - prettier *and* more accurate.

Yes, making a *new* biome that was essentially identical to an old biome, while changing that old biome was a huge mistake and messed up a lot of builds, because the water and precipitation behavior changed. They should have kept the old Taiga as it was and given the new biome a new name - Warm Taiga or (IMO better) Spruce Forest.
edit: the new Cold Taiga even had the same placement as the old Taiga, within the Snowy Zone, while the new Taiga shows up in a different place, the "cool" climate group, which would be non-Snowy in the older generation.

by the way minecraft isn't supposed to be realistic
They could add rose bushes, but don't take away roses
"Remember add don't take"
If that's really how you feel, then think of the change like this: they added more roses to create a bush, alongside adding a single poppy. It's just better aesthetics anyway, not like it's hurting anyone.
To be honest, I'd love the rose bush if there was a one-block high variant. I dislike the poppy because I think the texture, especially the center of it, is ugly.
That's all silly and opinionated though. Ultimately, I guess a poppy makes more sense than a rose, though I'd prefer a bush variety for most of the flowers, actually. Maybe with more planes than the average X of a plant, so it looks more 3d.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
1. Why does it matter if a rose is a poppy or not? And roses still exist, but they're in the form of a rose bush.
2. There are two forms of taiga: Normal Taiga and Cold Taiga. The normal doesn't have snow, the cold one does.
No support.
I said this. Two days later, my computer's motherboard melted down and I had to get a new one with Windows 8.
Irony in the first degree.

As I have told the aether people, don't take away from what has been there, add just don't destroy.
A single rose flower sticking out of the ground with no bush looks legitimately stupid, it seems more like fixing than destroying.
so does that make a poppy look stupid to?

Geographicraft (formerly Climate Control) - Control climate, ocean, and land sizes; stop chunk walls; put modded biomes into Default worlds, and more!
RTG plus - All the beautiful terrain of RTG, plus varied and beautiful trees and forests.

I'm a pixel artist who makes pixel things and maps! I also do line art occasionally.
I have two work in progress resource packs!
This is the second one!
And of course, by "work-in-progress" I mean "will never, ever be completed".
Also roses looked really good in pots and around your pets grave (First picture)
the middle picture is snow gen in beta 1.6
last picture is just it
(I would play the testing versions but I have a mac book air and no mouse, placing blocks is really annoying with the left click and right click)
