Lol, i think a better crafting recipe would be = Iron Ingots = Half Grates = Full Grate
[] [] []
[] [] [] ----> 4x
[] []
[] = 2x
[] []
Still, AWESOME idea
...That makes a lot of sense. You need to make a cube with the grates, but since they're grate -slabs- they each fill one full side, so one to each side makes the cube. And the grate slab itself is made just like other slabs, but using iron. I very much like that, and it doesn't use too much iron; You either get 1 block for 3 iron, or 4 grate slabs, which is definitely a good balance between resource use and ease of use.

You mean like this?
[] = 2x
Because by ^this it take 6 iron for full blocks which sucks because you never wanna use too much iron
But by this:
[] []
[] = 2x
[] []
I meant to make it use less iron and (you know how a cube has 6 sides) i wanted it to incorporate the four of the six sides (kinda like a chest but without the corners); you get what i mean lol
EDIT: I also had another idea for the grates *SLABS*:

The space between the iron ingots would be the spot for the water to flow through, but i dont like this idea as much as other one.

my idea of a mob grinder with the grates:
= cobblestone or stone
= any mob
= water flowing
= full grate
= you
= collection spot
= water flowing into collection spot
= Mob drop flowing to you in water

Hey Notch learn to look at your suggestions forum. This is a really easy simple idea with tons of support and has been here for a while now. USE it noob.

So you say 1.4 is fail because you don't know how to update your server? WTF
Thats like saying all cars fail because you don't know how to put gas in them.
First: Ceramic is traditionally a heat-resistant item. It is meant to be able to withstand heats that even metals melt at. Iron (even buckets) should melt when holding lava. If it was done properly, iron would melt on direct contact with lava, Ceramic would withstand it, and there would be a new, proper Ceramic container (bowl/bucket) that could carry lava, instead of the iron bucket.
Second: If a fluid is filtered in from the top, there should be internal workings to split the flow, effectively adding 1 to the flow distance. If it's a block, it should flow out the sides as well as straight through, even if gravity would then cause it to fall again, making it a "spreader" for purposes of gravity-based fluids (water and lava).
This seems like a good idea.
I bet I'm probably the only one that gets the "I don't care" option. I still voted for yes however.

First, thanks for the thumbs up to my post. Secondly, I definitely did get the reference, and multiple others did too- They've mentioned it earlier in the thread. :3

The idea was so brilliant I almost forgot about the poll :biggrin.gif:
The recepie should be like this though...

I saw that recepie somewhere on the front page.
But what differences does a steel grate and a clay grate have?
And here's a good type of grate.

Only lets liquids flow through. is a clay brick.

I have a Youtube channel! Go visit SappedIntelligence on Youtube and watch a video.
I approve. I would like to see two types, one that can be powered by redstone to act as a solid block, and one that couldn't. Perhaps a simple one out of wood, and the more advanced one out of iron. I'm not sure but I would definitely like to see some nice traps based on using these.

Look it's big red text!
Now that being said. Ponies.
Clay can't be redstoned. Please, read the thread rather than just posting.

Add in some flammable substances (and TNT) at the collection spot along with a fuse a safe distance away would be great fun :biggrin.gif:
