My suggestion is to completely expel the idea of Herobrine from Minecraft. Even though it adds a tad of mystery, and maybe a bit of marvel, the idea of Herobrine has become lackluster, as Mojang has never really expanded on the concept. If they were going too, I think they would have done so by now, as he's been rumored for years now. Every major update has included a brief line of text that states "- Removed Herobrine." I would assume that most people, like me, would just go about their day in Minecraft, not really caring about it, or maybe they are just more focused on the update. The annoying verdict behind it is that there are people out there that linger on this idea, and try with enormous confidence to prove people of his existence. An analogy to this would be: Herobrine is to Minecraft as the Illuminati is to the Government. Does anyone really enjoy hearing these "conspiracies?" This may sound one-sided, but I do believe that the sooner we eradicate this myth, the sooner we can all get along better in the Minecraft community. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm right. I'm really just making this suggestion to hear what others think. So, what do you think? Should Mojang remove any affiliation with Herobrine to Minecraft? Remove the "- Removed Herobrine" line?
The removed Herobrine thing is a joke Mojang played on the community. Also Mojang never supported officially the concept of Herobrine, as it is entirely player made up (kind of like fanfiction).
I don't think Mojang has every successfully removed Herobrine before. Personally, I believe that, each time they try, Herobrine just sneaks back into the game, forcing Notch or someone else (like Dinnerbone) to get annoyed and take him back out time and time again.
Seriously though, what's the harm in keeping a line of text? It's vaguely amusing, and it's fun to see all these Herobrine stories, though I admit that they are a bit lackluster nowadays.

I've always found them lackluster. To be honest, the only time I thought Herobrine was interesting was when I first heard of him. Then it was kind of interesting for a couple days, then it got old FAST.

The remove herobrine was an actual thing sorta. When Notch took out part of the code for the human mob he put "removed herobrine".

Herobrine does not exist. He never has and never will. It is an inside joke for Mojang.
Eccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc
I don't think that would help the problem. I do, however, think that Herobrine should be removed from the public conscious though.

You can't remove what isn't in the game. Any listing of the word in the launcher is just an inside joke from Mojang.
Locking.
