Definitely not. The only issue with buying Minecraft would be with your bank, not our current purchasing system... Not to mention, you can easily visit your local Walmart, and buy a gift code with cash if your credit/debit cards don't work for some reason. To run and maintain servers, Mojang will need to spend money, which they won't have if the computer version doesn't generate enough revenue... Now here's the issue with Microsoft buying Mojang; the money they paid for the rights to Minecraft probably wasn't meant to be spent on maintaining Minecraft. Not to mention, even a company as huge as Microsoft can't afford to lose such a large source of revenue (what is the point of buying Minecraft, if only the console & PE editions generate revenue?).
This is not a reasonable suggestion, so I do not support.
I like how every "Make Minecraft free" thread gets rushed with replies much more than most threads, because just the thread title alone spurs you to say something about it. I don't think I can bring any good points that haven't been touched on already in this thread.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.
If Minecraft was a free to play, Mojang(or Microsoft) would have to make it a game full of microtransactions and ads in order to to keep the game updated and trust me, I hate games like that!
Examples: 1 world cost 5$, you will need to buy crafting recipes not to mention a multiplayer pass and you'll need to pay to turn off ads!
The horrible idea, the illiteracy, the spongebob profile picture, "Mojang is have many moneys from buying by Microsoft", it was all there, a perfect troll post... but then I read the username... I'm pretty sure you're unfortunately serious...
Mojang needs money for obvious reasons, and being owned by Microsoft is blatantly not going to change that.
As I've stated in many threads before regarding this topic,
Simply put, if you can't afford a $26 video game, how do you have a computer, or pay for the internet, or even a house???
No support. Tell your friends to get off their butts and work for the game, wether it's with their job $, or the money they get for mowing lawns or raking leaves.
So just because your friends illegally got the game it should be free? Just pay the $26 dollars. It's JUST TWENTY-SIX DOLLARS. We had to pay for it, so why shouldn't you? Also, I haven't heard of those account problems you speak of. Seriously, just pay for the game. It's a GAME. Games cost money. I don't know why so many people think minecraft should be free because it's minecraft. Seriously....
I bet you already understood it from my post but... Absolutely no support
If and only if Minecraft became free, it would still need funding (as said above), and it would go to annoying stuff like advertisements and dlc. I did not have a problem buying it. Sorry, no support.
Minecraft would not work as a FTP game. You want to know why? Because there would be no way to make money from it.
Most FTP games use some sort of in-game purchasing ability, so that the developers can still make money while fixing bugs, adding new content, etc. In Team Fortress 2, this is the equivalent of buying hats/weapons. For other games, this is DLC, custom skins, etc.
Now, Xbox/PS Minecraft have skin stores and whatnot because you can't have custom skins, but on PC (where Minecraft gets the bulk of its traffic), anyone can have any skin; it basically equates to a Minecrafter's identity. There are no custom hats or weapons you could purchase because the game is too diverse; there's no logical way to work that. And making users pay for updates as DLC - after all previous updates have been free - would cause a riot akin to the taking of Versailles.
So, to keep things short. No. Minecraft should never be FTP.

Everyone is giving this person a hard time. I know this post isn't exactly smart or thought-out (at ALL), but I'm sure this is just a kid who wants to play Minecraft with his friends, and is trying to do something to make it so that he can play with his friends. This suggestions section isn't for beating someone while they're already down and clearly not educated enough to understand a lot of how business works. This section is to respectfully voice your opinion on why this isn't or is a good idea/suggestion. I'm not saying that EVERYONE is doing this, but I see some clear examples of people being jerks.
My personal opinion is that this is not a very well thought-out suggestion, and should not be implemented to Minecraft for several reasons that include: 1) People getting angry over the fact that they had to pay when others are getting the game for free. 2) Mojang hanging on a thread because of a loss in funds that would happen at some point. 3) People could create machines to automatically create multiple Minecraft accounts at NO cost, taking virtually all usernames worth having. If that were to happen, said person could illegally sell the usernames.
It's not really giving him/her a hard time... we are just showing him/her that we don't feel that this shouldn't be the case(most people are thinking this anyway). We already payed for the game so why should they make it free after many other people have already payed for it. That is why most people aren't liking this because we know if this did happen(which it won't) we would've just spent almost $27 down the drain without getting a refund.

Can confirm people hate this.
When I used to play ROBLOX (I know, I was stupid back then) They were selling something. While it was virtual currency, the only way to obtain the said currency was by membership. Only 5 dollars, so me along with thousands millions of others bought it, then about a year later, they make it free, and everyone freaks out.

This has no chance of happening, Microsoft needs money and this is quite a good way to make money
And they need money to develop the game
Why do I do this? What is life? Why are we here?

Interesting how threads like this one gets a hell of a lot more attention than actual suggestions.
I know, right? It's kinda sad. Someone who doesn't want to pay for a game (-_-) gets so much attention.
