Instead of adding this "Aether" of yours, add the Sky Dimension.
No Support.
So basically... you'd prefer a beefed-up Overworld with no reason to visit other than massive fall damage/falling into the void, over a dimension that has a bunch of new content and basically the same concept as the Sky dimension? Heck, even the name "Sky Dimension" is uninteresting.

Don't forget that the sky dimension was just floating islands with chickens and trees.
I generally like this idea.
Although I can't say I agree with every detail. I wouldn't changer Nether too much, but mostly add more structures, like salamander lair (I like lava boat idea) or lets say soul sand beach where some wurms could spawn (not too tough).
In aether there can really be some specifics, some ideas were good some, not so much to my liking.
But in general support (y)
I believe the Nether needs an overhaul that does not involve structures. Structures can be cool, but right now the main reason to go to the Nether is because of a structure. I do not want the Nether only to be a place about structures. The Nether needs more things that can appear anywhere such as mobs and blocks.
Could you put down specific ideas that you don't like about the Aether? There's one I don't like and it's the tortoise shell. If I had any idea on how 1.9's shields worked I'd make the shells into a special shield ingredient.
Well, I agree that Nether should be more heterogenous, so lets say more normal blocks and "biomes" there. But one big problem is in my opinion with spawning, bacause it is light a lot in nether and so mobs spawn in higher light, but that means pigmen can spawn in your "house" there. If I remember with blaze (I know blaze won't spawn in your house but take it as example), they can spawn in top of lightining so you would really need to have torches everywhere to prevent. Well, just wanted to point out that those extra (tough) mobs would have to have more spawning conditions to not cause too much annoyment.
Well, tortoise and beetle are somehow not fitting in my eyes. Marbell is on the other hand excelently fitting. Whales well, I am quite mixed. Aether spirit sentry could just get some improvement for model and texture.
I really like "staff" idea. But with cannon I am quite against, although I think there could be cannon in minecraft, but rather positioned. With items I am often just somehow 'mixed' and 'not sure' than simply 'against' or 'support', but just my opinion.
I think that there could be some passive mobs in nether (apart from pigmen), but don't have idea at the moment. Mushgraves can be a bit changed, but some plants there really should be and they should look "rotten" or "hellish desert".
Thank you for your input. I never really thought about how the Nether mobs' spawning conditions ignored light. Nether bases can be very helpful but with newer and more dangerous mobs they can become hard to maintain. Perhaps Nether mob spawns can be limited to Nether blocks. Or perhaps an item crafted from Aether materials could be used to stop nether mobs spawns within a small area.
The reason why I have the tortoise and the beetle in the Aether is because the tortoise is well known for its longevity (how long it lives) and the Rhinoceros is a symbol of life in certain cultures. Also remember that there are salamanders and pig zombies in the Nether.
The cannon is usually criticized for being gun like. But unlike other gun ideas it uses wacky ammo types that mix things up. In my eyes it's still "Minecrafty" (dare I use that term?).
The original New Nether thread had an idea for a passive mob. I believe it was called the spiked grem. I tried to come up with something that would fit this idea but I just couldn't fit them in.
New passive mob could be "lost soul" some aimlessly wandering wraitish neutral mob which coulb be killed for loot (?soulstone? maybe) and when attacked they would start to defend without doing damage but by depleting your hunger points.
The Problem with biomes and the Nether is how Biomes work. However a better way to do things may be in the form of semi structures. Invisible bubbles that change how and area of the Nether generates. These bubbles could be used for changing Nether Mob spawns as well.
I think two new mobs is enough for the Nether really. As along as the other mobs get improvements two new mobs is all that is needed.
Yes, something like a mushroom forest could act as a semi structure. While the Nether generates the seed could have areas that would generate large amounts of mushraves. These areas would most likely be the home to gluttons as it is a place of mushrooms. Salamanders would most likely spawn near (or in) large masses of lava such as the lava ocean.
Thank you for the spawn balancing ideas. With this I'm going to update the mob and mechanics section of the Nether section. It won't be exactly what you said but the changes will be based off of this small conversation.
I like the ideas in your first post. And a suggestion. As with obsidian being a very dark block type whose texture is very little changing with light and with the original concept of getting to the aether through a frame made up of glowstone, a block type which emits light, why not make the new concept for it with sea lanterns? Not only are they much more difficult to obtain than endstone, but It more accurately follows the concepts of light vs. darkness, and makes you fight one of the toughest challenges that minecraft has yet to offer before traveling to the aether. Not to mention end stone and glowstone both look like a block of puke, white milky stuff and "I had eggs for breakfast" styles respectively.
Tortoise Shells should act as homing projectiles (Althrough they wouldn´t be very nmble), rather than explosive projectiles, as Fright Bulbs already act as explosive ranged weapons.Upon shooting Cloud Puffs from the Nether Cannon, would the Cloud Puff
be able to push projectiles away? In that case, how would it behave in
the death messages in PvP
There are some awesome suggestions for Minecraft (this being one of them) and players love these suggestions, so why does it take so long for Mojang to implement them or even notice them at all? There's not much to say that hasn't already been said besides I REALLY want this in Minecraft, it's such a great suggestion.

Because they don´t pay much attention to the forums, so, unless someone were to send them a link on Twitter or through Reddit, it´s unlikely for it to be unnoticed.
Which is why I ask for people to share it. If lots of people actually share it to Mojang then it might get noticed. They might not make it exactly like this suggestion suggests but perhaps they would at least get inspired to make something similar.
Edit: How did I get Premium? I didn't buy it. Did somebody else give it to me?
I really like the sound of this, however I think that there are too many hostile mobs in the aether, with that man hostiles it will be very difficult to do anything. It would be really nice to be able to have another dimension besides the overworld that one is capable of building a house in. Of course don't get me wrong, some hostile mobs are still good. Also I think it would be cool if when you fell off a cliff in the aether, instead of falling into an abyss, the player could fall 500 or 1000 or 10,000 blocks down to the overworld. If they were in survival they would obviously die from fall damage, but a player in creative could survive. So maybe the base y coordinate in the aether could be 10 000. Even though you could fall to the overworld, you couldn't fly up to the aether from the overworld. (except maybe you could with a certain hard-to-aquire item). This would also take into effect the warped spacetime as you said -where one block in the aether is 8 blocks in the overworld. This would mean that if you entered the aether and traveled 64 blocks and then fell off the edge, you would land in the overworld 8 blocks (horizontally) from the portal. The overworld wouldn't normally be rendered while players were in the aether, but when a player fell maybe the game could put the player in a "falling loop" while it loaded the overworld, instead of showing the normal loading screen. That's my thoughts. I really want to see this happen and if it happened without my suggestion, I would still be happy, but I would really like to see these things too, so I will say full support
Well, now I'm gonna hate the Nether even more (I already hated it enough) with that Nether Wurm. But having the Aether into Vanilla Minecraft would be great, but I don't think Mojang would want to COMPLETELY steal all the textures from the Aether mod, so they might have to re-texture some things.
Only partial support.
Well, only half of the idea was great, (The Aether) but as I already hated The Nether enough, that beast of a Wurm is impossible to defeat without any diamond armor, I mean, heck, even in easy, you will pretty much need Protection 4 diamond armor to at least last a minute with that guy! But an overall good suggestion.

Guess how many textures in this suggestion are ripped from the Aether mod.

No, it's not. That's just what light level 0 looks like in the nether.

The Aether technically does exist. They were adding it but changed it to the End.

If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
