I had some small ideas for blocks/mobs for the nether to make it a bit more interesting. (Only reasons for the nether at the moment are, withers,fortresses, and blazes along with certain alchemy ingredients).
Mobs: Nethermites, similar to endermites/silverfish however they have a small chance to set the player on fire after mining nether brick in fortresses (same health as silverfish/endermite). Lava spider or Nether spider, a nether version of the spider, possibly bigger than the normal 2 block wide, (3 blocks?). I think it should drop a reskin of string (lava string?) Nether eyes (another fire resistance or night vision for brewing?) and nether wart. it would have slightly more health than a normal spider and wither skeletons can jockey them. (I know wither jockeys exist in minecraft but only in creative).
New Items: Packed/Tough Netherrack, Similar to netherrack but has a slightly higher blast resistance than netherrack and can be found naturally under soul sand or crafted by combining 4 netherrack together like bricks. Natural obsidian, Question why is the block needed to get to the nether not in the nether? why not add it as a rare block randomly found near the lava lakes or in it. Crying Obsidian, yes the original spawn item for cav- i mean minecraft, why not make this block increase the level cap from 30 to 35 when placed as the ground for enchantment tables. (must cover the ground around said enchantment table, only one being placed will increase the level cap by 1 and so on.) to obtain it, craft a ghast's tear with obsidian or find it near the bedrock in the nether (diamond pick can mine it).
Nether tools and swords: Slightly better than stone but swings slowly (similar to mining fatigue) (its still below iron but only slightly better than stone, breaks after 150 uses same blocks as stone however). made out of nether brick (not the block but, smelted netherrack).
New Structure: Abandoned Nether Camps, They have a chest with broken tools/supplies similar to blacksmith chests or abandoned mineshafts. They have a broken nether portal (missing 1-3 blocks of obsidian) near it is a small crater signalling someone attempted to sleep or were attacked by a ghast. They are found ether underground (under netherrack/ near lava lakes) or in random locations in the nether.
Any ideas to add or any balancing issues that might need to be addressed, tell me what you think!
