Hi guys...so I was thinking while playing through my new gameplay...I have a farm, I have a house, animals, crops, but it gets so lonely when you come home from an adventure to see an empty house..so I sat down and started thinking...so here's what I've come up with...
1. Adding female Villager.
2. Adding gold ring which could be created like this:
(Not the Slimeball, I mixed it up with Emerald, so its 7 gold and Emerald on the top, sorry)
3. Before you can marry the female, you must obtain(craft) the ring, and you must make her like you first before you propose.
4. To make female like you, you can a)bring roses, diamond or emerald (Note that she will not always like you even if you bring gifts, in that case, move on to the next one)
5. When she likes you, you must select the ring and right-click on her. If she accepts, ring will disappear from your inventory and she will have hearts flying around her (just like when you feed the animals)
6. Now you are married (in some update maybe they could add a priest in the village since churches are useless, and in that case, when female accepts the ring, you must right click her to follow you, and go to the priest and right-click him, then he will ask for 1-2 emeralds and then you're married)
7. Female (or now wife) can follow you around. You can bring her in your home and then right click her to make her stay there.
8. Every day wife will cook (or at least spawn food). To collect the food you must right-click her and she will drop 10 meat or similar.
9. If you are wounded, right-clicking on the wife will heal you a few hearts.
9.1. Later on in some update wife can tend to animals and crops too
10. You can make kids. To do so, you must craft another ring, but with diamond instead of emerald on the top. When you right-click the wife with the ring, again you'll see hearts flying around and 12hrs will pass (or like when you sleep). A kid will spawn next to your wife and you will have a child that will run around the house and backyard (you must fence the yard so that kid does not stray away). In some later update they could add the kid growing up (feed him with books lol), and also a few days must pass from mating to child-birth.
I hope you like this idea. It would immerse the Minecraft survival players even more. All the best, cheers ^^

The villagers have no gender. That's how it's been, and how it should stay.
Also, as GamingPlant said, yes, this would work with male players, but for those who are either female or gay, how does it work?
Honestly, I think the current villager breeding system is fine. This suggestion is unnecessary and (see above for female and/or gay players) not for everyone.
No support.

I'm still using Windows 7.
I said this. Two days later, my computer's motherboard melted down and I had to get a new one with Windows 8.
well, if you like guys better, it's not a problem to kick that programming in male villagers too...it's a much easier job then most of what I've said...I know that not all MC players are male, but it would be nice, at least for me, to have an option to choose gender at World creation menu...it's not that hard of a job
I've heard about that mod, didn't try it tho, I play vanilla with Optifine and shaders....
maybe it would ruin Minecraft for some players, but I don't see how anything could...I know many ppl don't like the new update, I don't know why, and adding female/male marriable villagers would be the same as those new guardian mobs...rare...and there's always that fact that you don't have to do it, it's all optional (like going to neather or killing a dragon)....
again, I personally would like to see that in a new update, but I understand that some ppl just don't like it...I'm here to share my idea...:)
and what you all said above, to have a choice to marry males also, I've missed that, I was watching from my point of view, sorry about that...
so ok,
11. add marriage option to males
12. have some cake and a potato :3
Villagers are genderless, are designed to be genderless, and will remain genderless.
And i also agree with Gamingplant. Not everyone likes girls. What about those players. How would the game decide who's a male or a female, and what they'd want to marry?
No support.
what do you mean "How would game decide who's a male or a female"?
How does game decide will it spawn a creeper or a spider in your backyard...
all of those technical questions are easily answered...and are relatively easy to program,
If you slap on long hair and lipstick on a villager, I will not marry it. No support, I rather just play the Minecraft Comes Alive mod if I wanted something like this...
Villagers already have different sexes, you can tell cause they make babies. Your idea is sexist for assuming only females are to be married, and for assuming that villager populations do have males but don't have females. I therefore don't like your idea.
But it would be cool to marry a villager...

I want ocean content(thanks Möjang!), nether biomes(again thanks!!), and savanna passive mobs (meerkats incoming!?).
Villagers are not meant to have a gender. Allowing players to marry villagers and start families distracts from Minecraft's main purpose. If you would like to see this in game, download the Minecraft Comes Alive Mod.
I am of the belief that villagers are gender identifiable, it's just that they possess the reproductive organs for both sexes. They are like sea cucumbers, if there is a shortage of one sex, they will changed to the opposite sex to balance the population.
It has to be true, because I fell in love with a villager once and she didn't recipicate my feelings. It would only make me feel more awkward to learn that she was actually a he, or an it.

Well that explains why they nerfed marriage in the RL server...
