Redstone as we know it right now is a great tool for awesome circuits and maps created in creative mode. But the whole feeling of survival is ruined by the fact, that after some mining I can create rails and mechanisms that would serve me forever. Energy should be produced and be finite. So I believe that redstone torch\block as we know it now should be only available in creative and in survival redstone power should be produced by furnaces or any other mechanism\system.
Imagine having to power your rail system with furnaces... that would defeat the whole purpose of making a rail if you have to put fuel in each furnace before you could use it; might as well not even bother because you'll reach your destination anyway while refueling them. Rails aren't even the best transportation method either if you have horses (depending on terrain), so this is sort of like what happened to pigs after they added horses; probably nobody bothers with pigs anymore, except to get "When pigs fly" because there is practically no situation where they are better (rails still have some advantages; which one is better depends on the situation).
No support; Minecraft isn't supposed to be realistic, nor does using redstone in Survival take away from it. Even a fancy slime block powered flying machine isn't the same as flying in Creative so it doesn't "ruin" Survival.
Furnace minecarts aren't completely obsolete, and they were added after powered rails, so how does that even make sense? Also, redstone isn't OP or anything, it spawns in low caves, and has some complex mechanics. Also, what use would redstone have if it were only in creative? It's cool to make huge piston doors in creative, but what's the point of not being able to build in survival, and actually use it. You can't play vanilla without using redstone once, it's like the tech mods of vanilla. You can do some really cool stuff with it, and this would break all that. If this were added, many people would probably quit Minecraft, or download a mod that made redstone like it should be.
I love redstone and trust me, people do use it in survival! I think you're thinking of command blocks, which can only be accessed in creative because their too OP for survival.
This is like saying, "Let's make light finite so people with that OP solar power have to do it a different way!"
This would completely ruin a whole aspect of the game.

Powered minecarts were added way before powered rails, I believe the same day rails were added. Powered rails were added much much later as a method of speeding up carts, and since then I've never ever used powered minecarts.
I hate using redstone, and I think this is a horrible idea. Putting coal in all those furnaces just to power a railcart system would just lead you right to your destination. You'd be walking there except you'd be losing coal. To add, this would be breaking to people with complex redstonery in their survival worlds. Heck, I only have a few pistons in my world that serve as tables, and it'd be annoying if I constantly had to shove coal into a furnace just to make my kitchen look nice.

My avatar-Madison Gotha. She knows various weapons, she's a mage/sage, and is somewhat immortal. Madison has the capability of taming and communicating monsters, a genetic trait passed down by her father. 26 physically, 1400-something mentally, and a Lofty Peakian/Zenithian mix. Doesn't really like being called an elf and hates being called human..
I might be Moderator, but don't bother treating me too special. And don't make tons of Ban Hammer jokes, please. Also, I'm an Off-Topic only Mod. Don't ask me to lock a thread or something if it's not in the off-topic
There is a coal-fueled cart in the game, that is obsolete due to redstone. Why doesnt it bother you?
Creepers bother me when they blow up my house!
But that doesn't mean I want to get rid of them! They are Minecraft's mascot.
And powered mine carts are't useless. I use them because I'm gold poor most of the time because I keep making golden apples (and I'm too lazy to make a gold farm).
Redstone is necessary. If you want to give powered mine carts more of a purpose, make powered rails slower or something. (don't actually do that though, its a bad idea too)
Furnace minecarts aren't completely obsolete, and they were added after powered rails, so how does that even make sense?
Nope. Furnace minecarts were added in alpha 1.0.14, while powered rails were added in beta 1.5. The thing that really sucks about them is that it's pretty much impossible to get the furnace with minecart to push uphill, so they are pretty obsolete. But I agree that redstone isn't OP. As for the OP, people have created huge redstone contraptions, so it would not only ruin the familiar redstone mechanism that we've come to know and love, but it would also take up incredible amounts of resources. Sorry, but no support.
Minecraft is not medieval-themed!!! As a matter of fact, it doesn't have a set time. And when and WHY did putting reponses in the quote, especially long ones, become a trend in the Suggestions? It's rather inconvenient, mainly since the OP has to gather your quote up manually. Avatar made by Endergirl!
If redstone power was finite, then any redstone automated farms would be useless since the maintenance on the redstone would be more work then just using the farms normally.

Comment what you think!
Sorry, but no, if you think so, you would need to get power not only for the redstone, but for the torches, the mobs should die if you don't feed them, and even then they would die whe too old, also, after a long period of time, you should die due to your age, you shoul always be on hardcore, blocks also should have a chance of being sligthyly curved, tnt should fail in the rain, and after the rain, it should get unstable, fireworks should fail in the rain and need flint and steel, and if you were in the rain with fireworks, they would explode when dried, you should be able to control steve with you body, it's name should be always your full name, it's/his proportion to the game should be always your size, your skin should be based on you, you should be able to have kids in the game and this needed aplayer from the other gender, being the female/woman getting pregnant and possibly aborting, and if you died either in game or in real life, you should die in the other, being the game called "real life" and you would be obliged to play it.
Oh, so break everyone who uses Redstone in Survival? On a server I play on, my friend uses Redstone a TON and he plays Survival most of the time (He's an admin, but he doesn't use Creative too often) so what would happen with his redstone powered secret storage system? His rail system to go into a Mineshaft? This is a terrible idea. Some people even use redstone for decoration, like Redstone Lamps, Pistons (For tables) and Redstone Torches to give a moody atmosphere. Just because YOU think Redstone is OP and shouldn't be obtained in Survival doesn't mean everyone else does!
No Support. At all.

If redstone had required fuel when it was implemented I think the system would be better than what we have now, but changing it at this point would break every redstone machine ever made.

Actually, rails were added in late Infdev, while powered minecarts were added in 1.0.14 Alpha.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
